Very pretentious from eMudhra’s part to say they *chose* to leave the business. The business is trust and they can’t be trusted. There is no business for them anymore.
I suspect the real reason eMudhra is exiting the SSL business is Google indicated it is most likely going to drop eMudhra from being trusted by Chrome AT ALL, after observing inexplicable incompetence in how they mis-generated their private key for the CA certificate.

Fear mongering????? There are screwups, but eMudhra using 4 as a private key is a screwup on such level of incompetence that it will be hard to match in a million years. Lack of accountability makes it even worse. I feel sorry for the number 4 and what it is now associated with.

However, some social media accounts are indulging in fear mongering about the impact of this incident. The facts of the case are as follows: eMudhra operates in two distinct areas:

Behind so many "ISO-Certified" companies in India is a massive, parallel racket of certificate mills. It's literally an off-the-shelf setup. You pay a couple thousand rupees, and they email you a PDF certificate the next day. No compliance checks, no actual audits, nothing. Real ISO certification takes months of rigorous work. These agents have turned it into a quick retail transaction just to help companies rig government tenders or look good on paper. Next time you see an ISO badge, check if it's actually registered on the IAF CertSearch database or backed by the NABCB. If it’s not there, it's not even worth the paper it’s printed on.
Went down this rabbit hole thanks to eMudhra Robert Neil COOKE(~75yrs) was a compliance auditor in the UK for decades running many companies. Including QEC CERTIFICATION LIMITED (02812220) and SN REGISTRARS (HOLDINGS) LIMITED (07659067) See logo and company details.

Trust. Once you lose trust you cannot easily get it back. "One time" can easily become "multiple times". I bet that even those who are not billionaires will consider moving out of California sooner rather than later.
Replying to @gabriel_zucman
The key problem is this: Why would billionaires permanently leave California in response to a one-time tax owed if they lived there on January 1, 2026? It would only make sense for them to leave if the tax becomes annual. But if the tax becomes annual, it would also generate revenue annually — by virtue of, well, being annual.

You ask Claude to build something, it fires immediately 100 internet searches on your slow 56k dial-up. Takes hours, but it doesn't find Github or Stack Overflow or any other modern information sources it currently uses as source data for programming. It tries to call NPM to install packages. Can't find it either. No git either. Did anybody teach it to use CVS :D
You wake up. It's 2001. You have a laptop, internet access, and Claude. What are you building?

Yes, we know what happened and it is equally devastating.
I’d you’re shocked at the damage in France to an old town hall you’ll be horrified to hear what’s happened to the beautiful old buildings and heritage of the Palestinians, Lebanese, Syrians, Iraqis and Afghans

All the people screeching about the Tesla Roadster flying car demo don't get it. Nobody thinks this is going to be a practical flying car sold to the mass market, and you just look like a fool debating it. Elon doesn't, Tesla doesn't, the engineers working on it don't, and any sensible public or Tesla investor doesn't. They know they aren't going to sell more than a handful or them or whatever for funsies, that's why it's literally "invite only" on the order page. There is absolutely no sensible business decision to spend 7 years working on this, they know it's going to be a negative return on investment. Heck, if they do get sold there is high likelihood it's going to get someone killed, and that's really bad for business. Just the normal rear Thrust version is probably going to kill people. But they do it anyway for the reasons this poster on the EEVblog forum said. No wonder engineers fall over themselves to work for an Elon company.

How can anyone look at what @elonmusk is making and not be even a bit excited about what his companies are building? I doesn't matter whether something is currently useful as-is or not. It is all about new possibilities, new frontiers, this is what progress looks like.

Well, this is awkward. Back in March, I questioned the grand idea that AI agents could replace entire engineering teams. Now Meta is reportedly rebuilding management layers because humans are spending too much time cleaning up after the machines. Turns out firing the adults and leaving the interns in charge wasn’t much of a strategy…. even when the interns are artificial.
The Oracle layoffs being discussed (20–30k range) are real. But the viral story about AI agents replacing DBA teams doesn’t match how enterprise infrastructure actually works and it doesn’t match any of the workforce data either. Database automation tools have existed for years. They reduce routine tasks- they don’t eliminate the operational teams responsible for uptime, security, architecture, and regulatory control. If AI had actually replaced DBAs and engineers, the workforce data would look very different. You would see sustained contraction in engineering roles across multiple quarters. Instead, engineering workforce returned to net positive growth after the Sept–Oct adjustment window. That indicates rebalancing, not structural elimination of the role category. There’s also another red flag I’ve heard… the claim of 18-month severance packages with accelerated equity vesting. Mass tech layoffs rarely offer anything close to that. Typical packages are 8–16 weeks of pay, sometimes with additional weeks tied to tenure. Packages approaching a year of compensation are generally limited to executive contracts, not broad engineering layoffs. What we’re seeing looks much more like restructuring around AI infrastructure investment and cloud economics, not AI suddenly replacing entire engineering functions with few architect replacements. It’s creating plenty of disruption… no question about that. But when the narrative being pushed doesn’t line up with workforce data, it’s worth saying so.

Croatia held elections (for president and parliament) in 1992 during a war with over a third of the country occupied, and many refugees in and out of the country. There was no 60-day ceasefire. War is just an excuse, not a good reason to skip elections.
To everyone who says Ukraine should hold elections: Zelensky just offered them. All Putin has to do is accept a 60-day full ceasefire. Now watch who refuses.

Yes, you did something. You delegated your work to AI. The code AI wrote is just as much your responsibility as the code you are writing yourself.

I didn't do anything. I asked two frontier agents to make the most of Elixir and this is what they came up with. Please do send a PR to speed things up! But also realize that it's not exactly extra points for Elixir if frontier agents can't find the magic "go fast" switches.

When scientists are spewing outright nonsense, then it is perfectly normal that people will question credentials of such scientists and won't trust them even in situations when they might be telling the truth. This is the world you helped creating, now bare the consequences.
We have never had more access to scientific information. And somehow we’ve created a world where a scientist and a conspiracy theorist appear equally qualified in your feed.

The amount of sheer stupidity necessary to post something like this is profound. Honestly, it's hard to know where to start.

Morons like this are the prime reason people stopped trusting scientists. One would expect that many of them are not that stupid, but if they are not stupid, the only other explanation is that they are being paid to spread misinformation like this one.
