To combat the rising cost of living, the Bank of England has increased the cost of living.
An inspired strategy.

Jingles never stopped working. They just became unfashionable. Also true of long-copy press advertisements, direct mail, radio advertising. The list goes on.

42 Years of Hatful of Hollow
Released on November 2, 1984, Hatful of Hollow is a collection of BBC sessions, singles, and B-sides.
Forty-two years later, it remains not merely a compilation, but one of the finest records the Smiths ever released.

James Acaster’s desperate need to appear likeable at all times has made this Traitors season such a disappointment. I hope the producers are watching this back and get some celebrities who aren’t afraid to be villainous little shits next time - insufferable right to the end

The one thing that grinds my gears about this Henderson discourse is people acting like martyrs coz they didn’t boo him.
Ok cool he was Liverpool captain, premier league and champions league winner but all I saw last night was a Chelsea player trying to knock Liverpool out the cup and personally, I’d do what ever to put off an opposing player

Jordan Henderson ever take a penalty for Liverpool btw? Sticking himself no. 5 to be their hero, prick.

This is why it’s so important to challenge the notion that the government “borrows” from the private sector. It paralyses everything, dresses itself up in “mundane common sense” but its one of the most damaging misunderstanding a politician can have.

Thank you, Andy.
Would you mind explaining to your @BBC colleagues that taxes and gilts don’t pay for government and that resources, including human, are constraints, not money.
Many thanks.

Police do not prevent crime; they respond to it. Crime is prevented by higher wages, guaranteed health care, food security, high-quality child care, housing, good schools, and addiction treatment.

John Healey only taxing banks by extra 3% - and time limited.
HSBC made £900 every SECOND over the last three months (NEF analysis).
Labour are asking the banks for 'a bit more' when they should be properly taxing obscene bank profits.

A 3% extra temporary bank surcharge is rather feeble given the astronomical scale of the profits UK banks have been making - the big four made £29bn in the first six months of 2026 alone. #Budget2026

It blows my mind how economists keep coming up with the same stupid solutions: cut government spending, slash taxes for the rich, raise taxes on the poor, scrap welfare benefits, deregulate financial markets, get rid of basically everything…
And then, time and time again, they act surprised when the result is chaos, unemployment, poverty, depression…
MMT tells you a monetarily sovereign nation can issue all the currency/debt it wants and nothing will happen, claiming that currency and market volatility can easily be eliminated by cancelling the capital account.
This nonsense can only be promoted by someone that does not understand that the currency collapse and creditworthiness slump are driven by domestic citizens and savers rejecting the local currency; it is not an evil conspiracy of foreign investors.
Furthermore, no nation is monetarily sovereign. It always depends on demand. Try to force use or restrict flow, and the currency is worth nothing.
And local citizens are the first to reject an increasingly worthless currency issued by an irresponsible government.
You are welcome
