So grateful for our @dfes_wa heroes battling the blaze, and humbled to see our community so eager to help each other out.
Last night was frightening, and while I’m keen to get back home, also glad that everyone’s keeping safe.
A fire is continuing to burn out-of-control in our northern suburbs, with ten homes lost overnight and evacuation centres now set up for residents and animals forced to flee.
Emergency crews are continuing to battle flames, as Perth is expected to reach a scorching top of 40 degrees today. #9News

Great as a @freodockers fan that the team are celebrating the Pride Round; as a @LivingProudWA Director that part-proceeds support our team’s work; and as a community member that this highlights statistics on #mentalhealth in the #LGBTQIA+ community, to spark conversations! 💜

It was great to hear of Sarah and Ada’s experiences, as well as those of attendees in the breakout rooms following the presentations.
Looking forward to the final part in our series, coming up on 8 November, to round out the year!
Another great #AHPAevent from our Student & Early Career Practitioner Practice Group last night focused on leadership and communication - the second of a 3-part series focused on @IUHPE Core Competencies and Professional Standards for Health Promotion 👍

Brief history lesson:
Indigenous people (1788-onwards): *had almost everything they are, know and own taken*
Indigenous people (1901): *explicitly written OUT of Constitution by Deakin, who also authored the White Australia Policy and dehumanized Aboriginal people*

Another great #AHPAevent with the @AHPA_AU Student & Early Career Practitioner Committee tonight. We were joined by Tori Jamieson, @nathan_harrison and @taylahjgregory who facilitated breakout rooms to enable virtual #networking in attendees’ areas of #healthpromotion interest.
I'm excited to be speaking at this event - one not to be missed for anyone working in or studying health promotion! 👇🏼

This thread, because the corporatisation of social issues grinds my gears. 👇🏼
Reminder - before I get cranky tomorrow - International Women's Day is a UN initiative and this year theme is:
"Cracking the Code: Innovation for a gender equal future".
The site that comes up & often quoted by corporates is NOT who you should heed.

My story is just one of many demonstrating how invaluable @IUHPE registration is. Beyond improving my #employability and validating my #competencies to implement health promotion practice to an international standard, it's great to be part of a global #network of practitioners!
Everyone working in health promotion and illness prevention should be @IUHPE registered - no matter what sector or workplace they're in.

This #WorldBloodDonorDay, I’m joining @just_equal in calling for a safer, less discriminatory and more abundant blood supply through individual risk assessment.

Except you do decline donors based on sexual orientation, since men who have sex with men (MSM) and female partners of MSM are declined, despite all recent scientific and medical studies concluding removal of the ‘gay blood ban’ will not jeopardise safety of blood supply. (1/6)

International Women's Day #IWD2022 thread:
International Women's Day is coming up on March 8 and I still see businesses, community groups, and local government events using the wrong theme and hashtag.
More importantly, to all men: fucking respect women.
