Brief history lesson: Indigenous people (1788-onwards): *had almost everything they are, know and own taken* Indigenous people (1901): *explicitly written OUT of Constitution by Deakin, who also authored the White Australia Policy and dehumanized Aboriginal people* 1/6

“Break the bias” is the corporate, sponsor driven version of IWD. The official #IWD2022 theme run by the @UN is “Changing Climates: Equality today for a sustainable tomorrow.” It’s easy to be mistaken & that’s what the corporates want. Make sure you know what you’re promoting.

International Women's Day #IWD2022 thread: International Women's Day is coming up on March 8 and I still see businesses, community groups, and local government events using the wrong theme and hashtag.

Pinpointing your exact location can become difficult in an emergency situation. Help us find you in an emergency by using the St John First Responder App, which sends your exact location to the operator when you call Triple Zero (000). stjohnwa.com.au/news/getting…

Gladys Berejiklian has resigned. Christian Porter remains in federal parliament. I can’t help but feel there’s one standard for male leaders and a separate one for women. #AusPol

Since it's Disability Pride Month, I'd love to address something I see many issues with out in the wild: Wheelchair etiquette There are appropriate and inappropriate ways to interact with someone who is in a wheelchair. Knowing them benefits all involved. A non exhaustive 🧵

On this day, in 1990, the World Health Organisation declassified homosexuality as a mental disorder. We've come a long way since then, but there is much more work to be done – in Australia, and around the world – to ensure our communities live free from discrimination.

There is no justification not to fly the Aboriginal flag in the Senate. Absolutely shameful vote today during #NAIDOC2020.

Today’s editorial @westaustralian - the saddest data we see in our @UWAresearch is this: surviving on streets erodes health & hope. But conversely when people are housed & supported our research shows physical & mental health improves significantly @homelesshc @Homelessness_WA
UWA research shows at least 15 homeless people have died in Perth since July- about one per week. Charmaine Mouirsh lost her partner to suicide a year ago. They were both homeless. She is still on the public house wait list. thewest.com.au/news/perth/15…
