Joe Rogan: Why are you a Democrat?
.@JamesTalarico: My mother met my birth father, who had a drinking problem that sometimes led to being violent. My mom decided right then and there that she was leaving. She found a little apartment in East Austin and worked double duty at a hotel to provide for us. She saw Texas Democrats like Ann Richards, people who fought for the little guy. That was the classic Democratic Party. I asked my mom what we were, and she was like, ‘We're Democrats, because Democrats fight for the people.’ Our historical legacy is the party that fights for the little guy. That's why I'm a Democrat.

This is good! There's an opening for politics rooted in a coherent, overarching set of values. I think people want to hear politicians name the high ideals that motivate their positions, and see behavior that's consistent. Where those ideals derive from can be an open question

If anything part of what also has happened last night was showing that the line politics caucuses of DSA especially in the NPC are deeply out of touch with the political moment and conjuncture. It reminded me of Marx's famous 1868 letter.

They’re calling it “loser Leninism.” A self appointed vanguard whose aim is to convince working people good things aren’t possible, and workers are incapable of wielding power to force their representatives to serve their interests.

The new high water mark for Democrats in national congressional races in the modern era is now D+13. Republicans haven’t managed better than R+6.8. In presidential elections, Republicans have won more than 50% of the vote just once since 1988. This is not a red country.
“I don’t want to be just sitting there for two years vetoing everything.”
President Donald Trump picked up a call from @DashaBurns on POLITICO Elections Live and talked to us about the blue wave and how he’s willing to work with incoming congressional Democrats.

I’m sorry but this is actually the biggest story of the night.
Scott is a Ford worker out of Local 551 who was instrumental in reforming the UAW, winning direct elections in the union, and electing Shawn Fain
The best working class politics story of the night

actually, we need to organize working people to force the Democratic majority to do the things they hope it will

Ashley Moody NEVER walked the line with you @TeamsterSOB. But ok brother. Shout out to all the rank & file Teamsters that are voting for me. I will ALWAYS STAND WITH YOU!
Teamsters General President Sean O’Brien here. Just voted in the State of Florida for the first time, and very proud to have cast a ballot for @SenAshleyMoody. Sen. Moody has been extremely helpful working with the Teamsters to protect workers’ pensions, defend good-paying jobs, and support well-funded union apprenticeship programs. The Teamsters look forward to working with Sen. Moody in her role on the Senate HELP Committee to pass the Faster Labor Contracts Act and get this critical legislation signed into law to protect American workers.

13,792 votes. 0.9%. We were that close to electing another Fetterman if the left hadn't intervened.

Why is a member of the NPC publicly shitting on an openly left-wing candidate in a red state just days before the election?
How is this acceptable?
National DSA is filled with way too many deeply unserious people who think this should be a fucking book club.

Unrelenting maximalism with zero regard for optics and no room for compromise and an arrogant overestimation of one’s leverage and power is a great way for a political organization to be permanently irrelevant

I’m sorry but AOC would probably be smart to distance herself from national DSA when there’s a risk of them airing out dirty laundry and creating a scene just days before an election.
Truly embarrassing, high school-type shit happening with Nithya Raman.

Somehow, in certain quarters, it has come to be seen as a personal failing to devote one’s life to improving the world around you. It isn’t “downwardly mobile” to choose, after college, to be a teacher, a city councilor or an artist. It’s just a different kind of ambition.
Great article about the DSA newyorker.com/magazine/2026/…

Important to broaden this criticism to “the Republican Party.” J6 was pinned exclusively on “Trump” when it was a Republican attempted coup. GOP has to sustain brand damage and loss of trust.
