ALRIGHT! So after almost 2 months of long work, here's my new UniGPU driver for retro VMs under QEMU which translates DirectX/OpenGL calls to the host GPU. This showcases Win98 with 3D Mark, Quake 2, Quake III Arena, DarkPlaces and other DirectX demos. It's still a bit rough on the edges, some games are still slower than I'd like, but hey, progress is progress!
Well, there goes my appreciation for @SynaCorp and @DisplayLink down the drain... Won't buy another product from them ever again.
A developer built a free Linux driver for USB display adapters and got a legal notice instead.
Mike Lothian was building Vino, a free Linux driver for DisplayLink hardware, using Rust and some AI assistance.
Then Synaptics, the company behind DisplayLink, sent him a cease-and-desist notice alleging patent infringement.
Lothian challenged the claims and shared the legal letters publicly. He’s a hobbyist developer without a lawyer.
The project’s GitHub repository is now no longer publicly available.

Hey @bcherny @lydiahallie I've been running into an issue where with /advisor turned on, Claude seems to use it inside subagents too, which isn't a very good idea. I think the advisor should run on the main session, not in subagents for better token efficiency :)
All of a sudden, my wallpaper just disappeared. I can't pick others anyways. Uhhh @Apple ? WTF
Hey @JoshuaSWarren how hard would it be to have an omarchy alpine-like version for Apple Silicon? macOS grabs about 3 GB of VRAM so on a 8 GB Air model you end up with around 5.73 GB usable. Would doing something like this and then using it remotely improve the situation? 🤔

This is exactly right… it’s a paradigm shift. We all got used to thinking our skill is to remember syntax and write code.
Our skill was always building solutions, thinking logically.
Writing syntax was the roadblock.
AI removed the roadblock
UniGPU? wat dis OwO?
Well... Here's a little sneak peek. I'm building now an universal driver for using the host GPU on Virtual Machines, range from MS-DOS to Win11 + Linux + macOS.
Wish me luck! Got DirectX 9-11 + OpenGL 1.0-3.0 on Win98 SE working well so far!
LET'S GOOOO!!!!! 🚀🚀🚀🚀🚀
The Linux Kernel is removing the requirement of tagging AI generated code submissions.
Over the last 10 months, we’ve been able to track the growing rate of AI coding in the kernel (with over 20% of all code submissions being AI generated, so far in October)… we know this thanks to the kernel’s required “Assisted-by” AI tag.
With the removal of this requirement, we will no longer be able to effectively track the level of AI development within Linux.
This change was agreed upon (by the majority of kernel devs) at the Linux Maintainers Summit, held last week in Prague.
The stated reasons for removing the “AI declaration” requirement are varied, but come down to these three arguments:
1) Usage of AI for coding the Linux kernel is becoming so widespread, that declaring it is redundant. (One developer likened it to declaring which text editor you used.)
2) Linux Kernel developers feel that most developers who use AI… are not actually following the rule of labeling their submissions as such anyway.
3) Other developers feel like it is “free advertising” for various AI platforms.
This change has not been officially merged yet, but (considering it was already agreed upon, and seems to have the support of top level maintainers at the Linux Foundation) that is expected to happen shortly.
How do y'all manage to build like 4 SaaS and get like 27386237863 MRR like, seriously? It's not as easy as it sounds :/
Hard to believe that now that I've got AI that enables me to contribute to the big projects I've dreamt of, without having to go through decades of learning low-level languages, obscure GFX libraries, firmware, etc. Now they're getting all jiddy-fiddy on LLM-generated code :/
Only the AI company that can provide models without annoying guardrails and unlimited (even if throttled) usage will win this faceoff. Everything else is just games.
This sucks, but I've been bitten a thousand times. I've always adviced to use debit cards and fill them as if prepaid, or use prepaid ones. Yes you'll have to pay account maintenance but it saves you from this situation, if it even tries to charge more, it won't go through.
