Of course the #txlege House is reluctant and suspicious about vouchers! So are most Texans. Same as the past 25 years. @GregAbbott_TX would know this if he sought the truth instead of billionaire-funded confirmation bias. His voucher rant is wearying everyone. #txlege

A church that sees the cross of Jesus as the central event of history can never identify any political order with the reign of God.

We won’t be doing this, to the surprise of no one. Since when do governors tell preachers what to preach? Preachers tell governors how to govern.
“In an unprecedented violation of God’s law of religious liberty, and the American doctrine of the separation of church and state, @GregAbbott_TX this afternoon called on ministers and pastors to politicize God’s pulpit to push his private school voucher program.” #txlege #txed

No surprise Trump doesn’t want you to see the J6 Committee evidence. Here’s the GPO website with transcripts, documents, exhibits & our meticulously sourced 800+ page final report. Also links to our hearings. Might be a good time to watch those again. govinfo.gov/collection/janua…

O’Shae Sibley's life and beautiful spirit were cut short by homophobia. Bigotry can never take root in our city. Being a New Yorker means knowing and loving people of all backgrounds. We'll bring justice for O'Shae's family and loved ones. His dancing joy will live on. nytimes.com/2023/07/31/nyreg…

“The public school is the laboratory of American democracy, where children learn to respect each other across all kinds of differences.” Teachers are first responders to human need. They are moral heroes who deserve our honor. Pray today for public schools everywhere. #txed

Whatever we do to the widows and orphans and refugees, we do to Christ. “When I was a stranger you did not welcome me… for what you did unto the least of these you did unto me.” -Jesus (Matthew 25) The border crisis is a compassion crisis. It’s not just a political issue, but a deeply spiritual issue. According to Jesus, we will be judged as a nation by how we care for the “least of these.”

Unfortunately, it has to be said – slavery wasn't a jobs program that taught beneficial skills. It was literally dehumanizing and subjugated people as property because they lacked any rights or freedoms. foxnews.com/media/desantis-a…

"These commandments that I give you today are to be on your hearts. Impress them on your children. Talk about them when you sit at home and when you walk along the road, when you lie down and when you get up." -Deuteronomy 6:6-7 PARENTS, not Public Schools, teach the Bible.

I'm mindful that this is a difficult time for our LGBTQ+ family and siblings, for my friends. More than 70 anti-LGBTQ+ laws have been enacted so far this year. And this morning’s Supreme Court decision will only add pain and difficulty.

Clara Hale Babcock was the first woman pastor in our denomination. She was ordained in 1888. Our church honors her with the "Babcock Room" named after her. And, of course, by affirming the gifts of women in all roles in the church.
