It strikes me there is a high degree of contributory negligence by Vince in the tree story. Going out in a storm for such a trivial reason, trying to move debris in the road rather than turning back. Quite apart from the good arguments Rewilding has about the tree. #TheArchers

I hope people will study this clip to notice: -- how Obama seems authentic and relatable without apologizing for his obvious intelligence or seeming to talk down. -- how he adapts his speaking style to his audience. -- how he invites his audience to live in the moment with him. Very few people can do what he's doing here. Obama is a supreme political talent, and I hope the next generation of leaders is studying his every move, not just to imitate him, but to identify similar talents among themselves.
Obama might be on a personal mission to get Trump to stroke out. Godspeed, good sir.

An oldie but a goodie. In 1968 a bunch of entitled hippy bastards sent a letter detailing their specious demands to the Warden and Fellows of Wadham College, Oxford. This was their letter of reply, which speaks to how far the academy has since fallen.

Quite a thing to say this on the day that a Russian strike kills a baby in a stroller.
Trump: "Russia, frankly, has been fine on Ukraine. They haven't been doing much."
Readers added context they thought people might want to know
Trump's remarks were made the same day Russia conducted a drone strike killing six civilians including children in a Kharkiv region park, plus missile and energy infrastructure attacks leaving hundreds of thousands without power. kyivindependent.com/what-russias-d… kyivindependent.com/russian-drone-… kyivindependent.com/russia-strikes…

Since bears love honey, an Anglo-Saxon kenning for 'bear' is 'bee-wolf' (ravager of bees), i.e. 'beo-wulf'. So Winnie the Pooh = Beowulf!

Shocking to hear that @BBC plan to reduce investment into #Birmingham and move our beloved The Archers out of the city. I have written to the Director General demanding they reverse the decision.

Keen to see this now I know it’s not been dragged into the present. Fennell’s Wuthering Heights & the Netflix Persuasion were dreadful. (Grey-haired man-bun - snip, snip)
Why has this Sense and Sensibility adaptation fallen flat? The issue shadowing this new high-profile Austen adaptation, featuring Daisy Edgar-Jones and backed by Brit Film powerhouse Working Title, has always been one of contemporaneity. How was the novice film-maker Georgia Oakley, director of the startling Blue Jean, going to match Fennell et al and drag Austen’s debut novel into the present? Sadly, she hasn’t 🔗 Tap the link in the comments to read more

So, after eighteen months of lying on the supermarket floor screaming at Denmark, Donald Trump has been handed the 1951 defence agreement, which already gave America bases and the run of Greenland for as long as NATO exists, and which it was using so enthusiastically that it closed sixteen of its seventeen installations there. The grown-ups have simply wrapped the toy he already owned in shiny new paper, told him it was the biggest present anyone has ever had, and he is now running round the garden showing it to everyone. He will certainly make the history books, although I fear not in the chapter he was hoping for.
This historic deal is a huge win for the United States and the American people. Thanks to President Trump’s vision and leadership, this historic agreement permanently guarantees U.S. security interests in the Arctic at zero cost to the U.S. taxpayer. Greenland will forever be part of the strategic defense area of North America and exclude any adversary from it and the surrounding area. This deal permanently and completely addresses our national security concerns in Greenland.

So let’s get this right Hegseth. You and your boss start a war against Iran without even informing never mind consulting your European allies, during which Iran seizes the Strait of Hormuz — which you’re now struggling to wrest back. And now you say it’s Europe’s fight rather than America’s. No. You broke it. You fix it.

So.... £2,485 on glasses for a PM was "sleaze rotting our politics to the core" but £72,000,000 in a single day for Nigel Farage is celebrated as hitting "the jackpot" and a "war chest..." Whatever is happening here is happening in plain sight. You decide!
