Congratulations to Tyler Harrow-Lyle on receiving the 2025 JGLR/Elsevier Early Career Scientist Award!
Recognized for leading the development of the first binational dreissenid mussel biomass map for Lake Erie—an important contribution to Great Lakes science.
Checking PAR sensors before they go into Lake Ontario. While we can't bring the sun indoors, the tunable light source in @AlgaeBurger lab is a great stand in. 6 down, only 10 more to go....
Finally getting around to cleaning up some particulate P samples from the #GrandRiver to explore oxygen isotope signatures in different fractions

#WinterLimnology is cool! Last weekend, my #IceDiving collaborators practised installing my sympagic enclosures on the #LakeIce bottom in #GreatLakes #LakeHuron. They even edited in some inspirational "underwatery" music.

If you ever wondered how much light penetrates through #LakeIce and snow, this is our “unmodified snowpack” site, inside a black ice fishing shelter. The light is what has passed through the ice and reflected. The productivity array is clearly visible 2m down. #WinterLimnology

Parts of the whole lake phytoplankton community using @EPAWater NLA 2017 data. Part-to-whole comparison from phytoplankton to fatty acids in 3 parts by Michael Meyer #DataViz #rstats: github.com/USGS-VIZLAB/chart… 1/3

ALT A panel of replicate maps that each show the spatial distribution of lake algal communities across the US. Blue-green algae and green algae are in highest density in the SE US. Cryptophytes, diatoms, and golden algae show a similar but weaker spatial pattern. Dinoflagellates, Euglenoids and yellow-green algae are the least common across lake communities.
