Bangladesh 🇧🇩 makes 98% of the medicines it consumes. Malaysia, Vietnam and the Philippines, all richer, import 60 to 80% of theirs. Export data: • Jul to Sep 2026: $76.6M, +40% YoY • FY26: $238.5M, +12% YoY The gap no one talks about: ~90% of active pharmaceutical ingredients (API) are imported, an estimated $1.3B a year. Bangladesh's LDC graduation will end Bangladesh's access to the TRIPS pharmaceutical patent waiver (20% of the current produced drugs). Domestic API capacity is therefore likely to become a priority for capital allocation in the sector to create advantages over input costs. Follow @heyishti for more emerging market insights.

AI data centers need round-the-clock power. Microreactors are one way to supply it: small nuclear units built in a factory and installed next to the data center. @AaloAtomics 's Aalo-X test reactor reached criticality at Idaho National Laboratory on July 4, less than eight months after groundbreaking. Aalo was the fourth company to reach criticality under the US Department of Energy’s (@ENERGY) Reactor Pilot Program, which had set July 4 as its target. AI infrastructure company Crusoe plans to use Aalo power for a data center at INL in 2027. Raised in Bangladesh, Yasir Arafat (@yasir_fission ),co-founder, CTO and president of Aalo Atomics, has worked on microreactors since 2014. He helped sketch Westinghouse’s eVinci and was chief designer of INL’s MARVEL. “Aalo” is Bengali for light. What does the milestone mean? Why does it matter? Read: exitstack.co/posts/aalo-atom…

Youngest @USMNT goal scorer ever Cavan Sullivan is one-quarter Bangladeshi! 🇧🇩🇺🇸 Bangladeshi-Americans have had almost no representation in U.S. sports at this level, let alone a USMNT goal. A young me growing up in Texas would have loved this so, so much.
CAVAN SULLIVAN SCORES HIS FIRST USMNT GOAL 🔥 He is now the youngest EVER USMNT goalscorer 🤩

My conversation with Michael Moritz, one of the great venture investors of the last 40 years. Michael joined Sequoia in 1986 and co-led the firm with Doug Leone (@dougleone) from 1995 to 2012. His investments include Google, Yahoo, PayPal, and Stripe. His new book, Ausländer, traces his parents' escape from Nazi Germany and helps explain his lifelong interest in what shapes exceptional people. We discuss: - The infamous Steve Jobs profile - Why Don Valentine hired him - The question he finds most revealing when interviewing people - Monomania and the cost of greatness - Why he has never felt good at anything - Writing, journalism and AI - What he learned about himself writing Ausländer I'd recommend watching this one if you can. Michael was incredibly thoughtful and reflective throughout, particularly when talking about his parents, childhood, and the more difficult parts of his personal story. Enjoy! Excited to announce Waiz Rahim as the Managing Director & CEO of @bsicfund, a US$35 million venture capital firm backed by 39 commercial banks in Bangladesh! I first met Waiz in 2019 when he was running his startup Deligram. His professionalism, his command of the business and the industry around it, and his consistency in communication stood out immediately. Since then he's worked as a Venture Partner covering Bangladesh at London-based @sturgeoncapital, making the shift from operating to investing. He brings deep local knowledge and a rock-solid reputation, and he's now spent time on both sides of the table—which is a short list in the country. Add his consistent commitment to bettering the ecosystem, and he was the right choice to lead BSIC into the next decade. 🇧🇩🥳

BD's US$50Bn farm economy generates 11% of GDP and employs 44% of the workforce, yet on-farm agri-tech has captured <1.2% of the country's startup funding.

Awesome to see more Bangladeshi representation in the global venture capital scene! Let’s gooooo @seeamshahidnoor! 🇧🇩🥳
BIG Update: I’m joining @a16z as an Investing Partner on the a16z @speedrun team! 🎉 I’ll be focusing on early-stage investing as part of speedrun, where we invest up to $1M in exceptional founders building great companies, & give them unfair advantages to succeed. If you are or know a founder who wants to win, I'd love to meet you! I'm especially excited about compelling novel ideas in AI dev tools, agent RL & evals, data, & infra in general. For those who have known me over the years, you know how much joy I get in supporting those around me. From working countless nights to support my brilliant teammates at @scale_AI, to spending thousands of hours in my leisure time making free videos for millions of students in Bangladesh, I have given my all to support those doing their life's most important work. That has always been my personal mission. So, when I met the speedrun team, a team that works relentlessly to make early bets & support founders from the very beginning of their journey, I knew this was the dream team for me. I am thrilled to join this shared mission with @andrewchen, @Tocelot, @tkexpress11, @emilybenn12, @kenanhsaleh, @far33d, @marcussegal, @ndrewlee, & the rest of the team! It's time to build.
