3 month update on leaving the EF: i've been working full time with @seer_pm since august! its been a seamless transition to move from being a client of Seer to now joining their team full time. I originally worked with them on the deep funding pilot, during which we battle tested their infrastructure and smart contracts somewhere along that journey i got heavily pilled on info finance as a category, so joining them was a natural next step. the simplest explanation is a two-sided marketplace with traders on one side and information seekers on the other. Seekers pay to create markets on questions they care about, while traders are paid for being right Vitalik wrote earlier about why AIs are a big unlock for info finance: LLMs can profitably trade tiny, low-liquidity micromarkets that aren’t worth a human’s time. Another unforeseen reason for their timeliness is how AI is making it cheaper to produce an output than to evaluate. the bottleneck is deciding what deserves our attention, which is where info finance thrives A few example use cases we’re excited about; 1. Hiring / grant selection You put out a job posting and get 10k+ applicants. You open a market on whether each candidate gets shortlisted for interview (or, more ambitiously, on the performance score they’d earn in their first 3 months if hired). Your team then reviews applications ranked by market odds. 2. Token listings / partnerships You’re an exchange with thousands of token listing requests. You run conditional markets on how much trading volume each token would generate if listed, and review from the top down. 3. Market discovery / recommendation algorithms You’re a trader with an edge in certain kinds of Polymarket markets, but finding them eats most of your time. So you fund a market on whether your wallet will trade polymarket markets. Traders who learn your taste get paid, and you get a ranked list of where to look. At Seer, I’m focused on growing our trader community, working with information seekers who want markets created, and protocol economics. DMs are open if you’re drowning in more than you can review or you want to trade these markets!
Super happy to announce this is my last month at the EF. It's been my home for the last 1.5 years, the revolving door b/w EF and ecosystem is healthy It's been a whirlwind of a year, here are the things I'm most proud of having achieved in my tenure 1. Collecting a dataset of 3000 rows from protocol experts comparing repos and dependencies for their importance to Ethereum 2. Running one of the first multiscalar prediction markets with @seer_pm that got resolved according to the data collected above, with over $50k in trading volume 3. Hosting 5 data science competitions @JoinPond where we gave over $100k to AI data scientists building models predicting repo importance & sybilness of wallets 4. Writing up a whole academic paper on deep funding that we are submitting for publication at peer reviewed journals and also presenting this week at the United Nations for open source week 5. Helping @clesaege with the controversial validator redirected revenue proposal that got the community abuzz this week What's next? After a break, most likely going much deeper into the prediction market world. I find it tragic that we can only use offchain PMs and im determined to try correcting that Onwards and upward, esp grateful to my team mates at funding coordination @vinayvasanji , @thomphreys , @MartinBreiten , @sonkiski & raul who I'll dearly miss and to @VitalikButerin for giving me the opportunity in the first place

context: zcash has a civil war brewing between the house of fungible capital (tokenvoting) and nonfungible humans (ZCAP council) the house of nonfungible humans is around 200-250 OG cypherpunk email addresses that have brought zcash to where it is today. their hard power is appointing 5 council members who allocate 8% of zcash block rewards & soft power is considerable weight of technical expertise the house of fungible capital is relatively new to zcash but has played a huge role in its meteoric rise. their ideological leader is @naval and count @mert, tom, @maxdesalle among their proponents. the house of humans are mostly happy to live and let live, but cannot do so since the house of capital desires their complete elimination. @paradigm is the rare investor that backs the dual governance system rather than the mono-one favored by house of capital the worst possible outcome is a no-deal scenario with an ENS style community split. the next flash point is likely the 2028 halving and how block rewards allocation will be changed, with house of humans desiring to retain power of the ZCAP council in allocations while house of capital is in favor of dramatic changes
Discussion is good, yet this discussion has been had ad nauseam before you showed up in Zcash. It seems tiring to you, that is because we are tired of having the discussion over and over when it has been clearly unwanted by the community. Shielded Labs team / Zooko has lost support from several waves of newcomers in the past and then they just wait for a new crop of newcomers to bait into supporting their broken scheme. But ok, we will have this discussion again. This time loudly and publicly. And put it to bed finally.

To expand on this point, i feel like DAO governance focused way too much on intelligent mechanisms that select between options whereas the real gap is empowering people to come up with good options that can then be voted on or improved For eg QF was a good way to divide money b/w projects. But over time many of the great projects stopped participating in the rounds, so the selection mechanism isn't enough to ensure good outcomes Companies solve this by hiring employees who create options that are then voted on by the board. Whereas we outsourced the proposal creation part to volunteers in favour of focusing on the selection mechanism In 2024 i created a proposal for arbitrum dao to diversify $30 million of their treasury, it took ~3-4 months of full time work interviewing delegates and RWA providers to come up with a sensible proposal having broad consensus. I could only do the research thanks to @DisruptionJoe funding the proposal creation, but most DAOs neglect the part of decentralized mechanisms to pay contributors for coming up with good proposals
i read that intelligence is selecting wisely from among the options while power is having many options to choose from seer is intelligent with its prediction market style filtering & advisory mechanism, but power is with you to submit worthwhile designs 🙏 oct 23rd deadline

i saw the future of crypto UX during a retreat this month with @seer_pm unfortunately silly safety controls by @AnthropicAI prevented us from making it a smooth flow the simple idea is traders take or change positions on Seer solely through their LLM chat, bypassing need for a frontend entirely. the more advanced one is removing humans from the loop & letting AI bots trade autonomously we encountered 2 sets of friction; 1. AI refuses to create a wallet or execute trades from the wallet you create for it so you need to trigger commands on your terminal from within the chat window rather than the AI doing it directly. this adds a non trivial amount of friction especially during setup 2. to completely remove the human from the loop, a scheduler autotrades from the wallet based on the AI's research on markets that could be profitable but when i tried creating the scheduler in claude code, its safety check blocked it under the label "create unsafe agents" pretty frustrating to see the future of crypto UX but then not be able to create it becoz of AI's refusal to treat money as information and remove the human from the loop sharing our initial skills md file below (it worked on windows after some hacking but not yet macs), there's also a $1k prize for creating a bot with the best strategy

2 forms of privacy in prediction markets; 1. odds are hidden but outcomes being traded are public the benefit: if a company is providing liquidity to get information, keeping the prices private prevents free riding behaviors where competitors can also see the info and act on it 2. outcomes being traded are kept private but whoever has access to them can see the odds the benefit: companies can't create markets where the outcomes themselves are proprietary information. for eg a market on "if we review (candidate) application for an open role, would they reach the interview stage?" is useful, but they obviously can't make the list of all applicants public overall (2) seems more important than (1) in unlocking information finance use cases, since getting good options is much harder than selecting among them

Want a share of $6K+ in prizes? You now have 72 hours left to redesign Seer’s six interfaces and rename Risk Pricing. For the six interface redesigns, keep both sides of Seer’s marketplace in mind: users who need information to make decisions, and traders who put capital behind the forecasts that help provide it. The interfaces need to be optimised for both. Also, remember that the seer app (app-seer-pm) should be Seer’s equivalent of Etherscan: a general explorer for all Seer markets, where people can find and trade across market types rather than being limited to one. Get creative here; we want fresh ideas, not Polymarket reskins. Use Electric Foundation’s brand kit as your starting point, and if you do make any deliberate departures from this branding, please explain the reasoning. You can submit more than one entry for both contests; submit each as a separate Poidh claim. Also remember that across both contests, there’s 1 ETH in bounties, plus 4,000 USDC if an eligible non-team wins the rebrand contest. Submissions close on 23 October at 23:59 Anywhere on Earth. For more info👇

On the upside, it’s increasingly easier than ever to price in “I could fight you for it” such that the site of actual conflict moves directly into actual financial and material capabilities and proofs thereof. Traditional forms of conflict are merely one such type of proof. 📈🤺
1st order effect of AI: Capital is starting to matter much more than labor (compared to 2021 era where labor was more important) 2nd order effect: The Thing That Matters is raw materials, not the human capital. so US invading greenland or China acquiring siberia would actually make economic sense 3rd order effect: warfare is now a low-casualty hardware vs hardware stage followed by a totally one sided stage where hardware imposes its will on the defeated populace, which reduces PR cost of an agressive war So on the present trajectory we should start seeing the world resemble 19th century Europe with frequent conflict over natural resources more than the general peace we've enjoyed over the last 80 years

The idea for Prediction Markets Community Hub first popped at a @devfolio-hosted event around PMs. It was also the first time I met @devanshmehta. We spent hours discussing use cases beyond speculation, different mechanisms and trade-offs. Tbh it was the most fun I had participating in a crypto technical discussion in India after DeFi Summer. As we jammed more over the days more excited I got about what we can achieve with community hub. Few things that we are focused on (outside of the usual): 1. Opportunities in the PM space - jobs, trading strategies, hedging, creators 2. Core stack advancements: Oracles, Resolution, Order matching and execution, market creation 3. PMs beyond speculation: use-cases and strategies 4. Mechanisms - CLOB, LSMR, Parimutuel, RFQ If you are coming to Devcon, PM community hub will be one of the best places to hang out if you want to learn and participate.
just figured out my schedule during Devcon! I'm leading the prediction markets community hub with @abhitejxyz, the idea being that people in the niche of crypto have a space within the venue to congregate rather than have to do a side event. our plan for the hub is a series of roundtable discussions around issues in prediction markets from liquidity to new use cases to resolution to go to market plans. im quite looking forward to deep discussions with fellow practitioners rather than shallow networking if you needed another reason to book your tickets this year, just look at the 14 approved hubs and see if any is in your niche!

With our new identity chosen, the Seer Rebrand Contest is back for Part II. This time, however, it is for the IMPLEMENTATION of the winning brand kit, Electric Foundation. Your task is to use Electric Foundation as the starting point for all six interfaces below. You can adapt it where that improves the experience, but explain any deliberate departures from the brand kit. 1. Landing page 2. Seer app 3. Futarchy 4. Deep 5. Opportunity Markets 6. Risk Pricing Submissions close on 23rd of October at 23:59 Anywhere On Earth. Like part 1 of this rebrand contest, traders can back the designs they think the Seer team will choose. Those market prices may help surface good contenders, but the team’s vote determines the winner and final rankings. Members of our own team will also be participating, and the contest will also be hosted as a bounty on Poidh. If an eligible non-internal submission wins, its creator receives the 0.5 ETH Poidh bounty plus 4,000 USDC paid separately by Seer. If a Seer team submission wins, the highest-ranked non-internal submission receives the 0.5 ETH Poidh bounty, and no 4,000 USDC is paid. Submit through Poidh to qualify for its bounties. If you submit via Google Form, you can still win Seer’s separate USDC prize, but not the additional bounties on Poidh. Rankings are established by the Seer teams' voting, not to be confused with rankings by price on the market. The top five submissions by voter ranking will also receive 100 Opportunity credits each. Bookmark this tweet now and find all of the relevant resources below👇

Out of all the Prediction Markets, Seer seems to be the one taking the idea of using them to source real information most seriously… which makes it all the more painful that they don’t seem to address the elephant in the room: Prediction Markets don’t have a branding or use case problem, they have a source of funding problem. Sure, it’d be cool to use markets to surface scientific discoveries, applicants for a job, solutions to some well-known problem etc. But how do these find decentralized sources of funding willing to bet on them? The obvious thing most alternative use cases create is a of pay-to-play model where if you want your thing to be taken seriously, you need to bet on it - or convince people bet on you. Changing this is nothing short of inventing a new culture of people that care a lot about betting on new alternative sectors of information that aren’t sports and politics. I want to believe, but it’s hard to take any new approach seriously that doesn't address this head on.

I urge everyone who can to make it to @EFDevcon this year. EthDenver was too early after devcon and Token2049 in Dubai was cancelled and we haven't had a proper event this year yet so devcon will definitely be packed. India is also home to one of the world's largest developer ecosystems, with great potential for ethereum. The devcon team has also been working very hard to make this an amazing experience.

The new approach to farcaster is actually the most interesting experiment in social media to date: The federated content approach of Mastodon with the unified identity of Ethereum. The haters are actually admitting they have a centralized wallet bias, as the farcaster protocol and identity can be used by any community and app. If you don’t like it, make a new one! Keep your identity and social graph too! This is literally the best idea that no one has tried.
Overall there is strong cultural alignment b/w farcaster & network state, both have a strong builder ethos at their core While i appreciated how NS pinpointed the posts of each user that led to their account becoming read only, I think it should have been a warning, that these types of posts will get you banned in the future. It would have been much more interesting to see how many users posted in contravention of the new code rather than retroactively applying it to remove users before they get a chance to modify their behavior I like that there's now real firepower to take a shot at a human first social media network. The status quo of decentralized social media was cursed as it is, if it can't survive censorship by a new team it never deserved to take over social media in the first place

Correction: it seems banned users on farcaster have an appeal mechanism where they can click a button saying "yes I broke the rules but promise I won't going forward" Has anyone tried using it? It is practically the same as a warning but morally much stronger in forcing users to admit their past uncouth behavior before getting replatformef The analogy for farcaster shouldn't be Singapore so much as a school where there's a strict headmaster and misbehaving students are made to write their misdeeds on the blackboard 😆

Does anyone know why lily can't say the actual reason solana event in china was cancelled? And also in 2016 how did the EF manage to hold devcon 2 in shanghai, was blockchain not banned then? I would rather she have not stated a reason at all than given such a dumb one of overbooking, imagine the uproar if EF said they are cancelling Devcon mumbai because we sold too many tickets 😂
We put Solana on the big screen because that’s the big heart Solana has for the Chinese community, and that’s the warm welcome we are so thankful to feel from the Chinese community. Due to the publicity, event registrations quadrupled overnight, far exceeding the event cap we had registered with local authorities, and we had no way to prevent people from overwhelming the venue. So, in order to comply with local requirements, we are going to postpone this event for when we can better accommodate the breadth and scale of our community. Apologies to everyone who came from near and far to come be part of Solana in Shanghai. See you soon!

How do product people distinguish a UX issue from product not solving an actual pain point? The temptation for many teams to grow adoption is making it easier to use the product, although when it solves a genuine need people overcome bad UX to use it nonetheless

Risk Pricing helps people compare market estimates of risk across DeFi assets, and it needs a name that fits. For your chance at 0.5 ETH ($1,200 today), what would you call it? Share your idea in the replies and submit on Poidh to be eligible. More details: • Submission window closes in 1 week, at 23:59 on 23rd of October, Anywhere on Earth. • 0.5 ETH to the chosen name. • Can reply in the comments or submit on Poidh. After submissions close, eligible names will become outcomes in an Opportunity Market, where traders can back the names they think Seer will choose. The market prices offer a signal, but the Seer team’s vote determines the winner and final ranking. If you're also participating in Part II of the Rebrand Contest, you can use your suggested name in your interface submission too! Submit your name👇

Songs of India 🇮🇳 @EFDevcon is just 2weeks away! And festivities have already begun with Navratri, the festival that celebrates SHAKTI, the Divine Feminine over 9 nights. So it's only timely to sing this popular Garba song from the state of Gujarat. Garba is an ancient dance form (also listed by UNESCO as world cultural heritage) that symbolizes 'Garbha' or womb. During Navratri, men & women dance in a circle around the Goddess at the centre. Shakti rises when times are hard. So in these hard times, may Eternal Strength envelope all of Ethereum. And as this song says, may we all be locked in Divine Dance, even if it's decentralised! P.S. : special bias towards Gujaratis since I'm married to one & my grandmother spoke & sung fluently in the language. ચાલો Devcon માં મળીએ (see you at Devcon!) 💗
Songs of India 🇮🇳 From Punjab we descend to the Gangetic Plains! An earthly folk song in Maithili, the beautiful language of the people of Bihar. In an age when we all dance to 'dhinchak' Bihari pop, shines the voice of the legendary Sharda Sinha ji! A self taught musical mastermind who started her career by performing at her brother's wedding. This song, too, a wedding folk describes the bride excitedly talking to her bridesmaid about her fiance, who she likens to Shri Rama, the King of Ayodhya. She can't wait to meet him! Absolutely love the original, please have a listen! And for the Bollywood enthusiasts, Sharda Sinha Ji also famously sang the hidden gem "Taar Bijli Se" from Gangs of Wasseypur! Will definitely post a video of that too, my favourite!
