Such an honor to be back at @BIDMCSurgery @BIDMCTransplant @Harvard, where I trained as a Surgeon. Joining an amazing team with the mission to maximize Liver Cancer care and Organ Transplantation. @ASTSChimera @AHPBA @IHPBA @ATCMeeting @BIDMChealth @CityOfBoston @DanaFarber – at Brookline, MA
Huge congrats to our research fellow, @DivyaRandhawa09, on presenting our work comparing Robotic versus Open major hepatectomies at the @NewEnglandSurg New England Surgical Society conference in Connecticut. She did a great job! Proud moment for the whole team. #RoboticSurgery #Hepatectomy @BIDMCTransplant @BIDMCSurgery
Congratulations to our Transplant and Hepatobiliary research fellow, Dr. Belén Rivera @MBRiveraMD, on graduating with her Master of Public Health (MPH) from Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health.
We are incredibly proud of her achievement and grateful for her contributions to our transplant research program at @BIDMCTransplant @Harvard. A testament to the impact of the Innovative Research Initiative (IRI) Fellowship @IRI_program in developing the next generation of academic surgeon-scientists.

A powerful reminder of what living donation is truly about.
Anthony Choueiri donated half of his liver to save his brother, Wadih. In his words, “this life is all about relationships.”
A beautiful testimony of love, sacrifice, family, and humanity. Living donors are true heroes, giving others a second chance at life through an extraordinary act of generosity.
Honored to celebrate Anthony, Wadih, and all the patients, families, donors, coordinators, nurses, anesthesiologists, hepatologists, surgeons, and teams who make Living Donor Liver Transplantation and Robotic Liver Donation possible at @BIDMCTransplant @harvardmed @Harvard

Grateful to be part of this year’s @AHPBA meeting.
Mentorship was the highlight. From reconnecting with my mentors to seeing our residents and fellows from Boston and Chile presenting at the podium, I could not be more proud @MBRiveraMD @cdsotomayorl
It is a privilege now mentor the next generation of liver and pancreas surgeons. The future is bright, and the bridges between North and Latin America continue to grow.

Truly honored to present at the AHPBA Robotic Transplant session alongside an incredible panel.
I shared how I learned robotic liver and hilar dissection, thanks to generous proctors who taught me their tips and tricks.
120+ robotic liver cases and 15 robotic living donors in, and still learning every day. Grateful for the mentors and the great team we have at BIDMC.

Happy weekend at BIDMC Transplant.
3 livers perfused simultaneously and transplanted within 24 hours.
Done safely.
Done deliberately.
Machine perfusion lets us choose the timing. We do not fight the clock anymore.
Grateful for an extraordinary team.
The future is now.

Excited to hear from Dr. Martin Dib of BIDMC’s Transplant Institute at the 6th Annual Liver Tumor Symposium on March 5. ⭐
Our Liver Transplant program is #1 in New England for liver transplant volume. Dr. Dib will present on, "Liver Transplantation for Colorectal Metastases."
Robotic vascular anastomosis demands precision. Training should reflect that.
We developed a perfused simulation model with pulsatile flow that recreates physiologic hemodynamics, allowing residents and surgeons to practice before entering high-stakes surgeries.
Structured.
Measurable.
Reproducible.
Scalable.

Behind every number, there is a patient and a team.
In 2025, we completed 10 robotic living donors for liver transplant and 100 robotic major liver resections.
These milestones belong to our patients, living donors, nurses, anesthesiologists, coordinators, trainees, and surgical colleagues who show up every day with excellence and humility.
This achievement comes in a year marked by historic outcomes, program growth, and multiple robotic firsts for our Transplant and Hepatobiliary Program.
Grateful and proud of our team.

Beautiful story of Mary and Theresa. Our team was honored to be part of their journey. Over a year ago, we launched a new LDLT program for colorectal metastases at @BIDMCSurgery in partnership with @DanaFarber and @BIDMC_CancerCtr. We’re now receiving multiple referrals, with several patients already transplanted and others moving toward transplant, all with fully robotic living donor surgery.

One of the greatest initiatives to train doctors in robotic surgery.
🇪🇨✨ Incredible week in Ecuador!
Our @BIDMCTransplant @Harvard team joined an @AHPBA -supported outreach mission in Quito — performing four live surgeries, including the first robotic major liver cancer resections and the first robotic living kidney donor surgery ever performed in the country.
All patients are recovering very well and deeply grateful. This collaboration will help strengthen their robotic surgery program and train the next generation of surgeons.
Grateful to the @AHPBA, @IntuitiveSurg, and the Society of Surgeons of Ecuador for all their support.

Fascinating JAMA Surg paper on “disappeared” CRLMs after chemo:
🔹 Only 56% of disappeared lesions on CT/MRI were truly non-viable on biopsy
🔹 28% still detected intraop (US or scars)
⚠️ 2-yr follow-up is too short to judge survival. Nearly half remain viable—leaving them isn’t R0.
To me, this argues that for select pts, Liver Transplant may be the best way to ensure true R0 resection—rather than trusting “disappeared” lesions.
jamanetwork.com/journals/jam…
🌀Do CRLM truly disappear after chemo?
DREAM study:👥233 pts
MRI + CT most accurate
❌63% truly nonviable
👀24% visible on intraop US
No change OS with resection vs not (small numbers)
🤔If disappeared CRLM: plan resection or trust it disappeared?
