Friedberg’s Bull Case: Everyone is Making Money in AI “I took a look at the AI value stack to try and identify who's making money where, and it turns out everyone's making money. So for every dollar of COGS, every dollar that Nvidia spends, that turns into $4 of revenue for Nvidia, 75% margin. And then that gets sold to SpaceX, and then SpaceX turns around and they're making an 83% margin on that chip spend because they're looking at a five-year depreciation, but then they're making $1.25B a month on Colossus. And then Anthropic is showing in this S1 that they're making about 85% incremental gross margin on every incremental dollar coming in. So at the end of the day, $1 that Nvidia spends turns into $18 that Anthropic is making selling to customers. And the question is, are customers making money? So if the customers are making, call it on the order of 2-10x the money they're spending, because otherwise there would probably be a retention issue and a decline in spend. Generally speaking, if AI is delivering value to the customers, I think this shows that there really is true productivity arising from AI. That across the whole value chain there is such margin to be had, there's so much value being created, that this really is what I think Eric Schmidt a long time ago in the early days of Google used to say, ‘Google's total addressable market is global commerce.’ And I think for the first time ever, we're seeing a business actually potentially starting to realize that theory that if you can create enough productivity gain for your customers, that your TAM is commerce. We're almost growing the equivalent of the human working population by 100x or 1000x or 1,000,000x with this technology stack.”

Me parece bien.

We have reached the “Sam and Dario agree on something” part of the singularity.
I agree with Dario that we need to pace the frontier. This has been a primary topic of discussions we've had at OpenAI in recent weeks. Committing to having independent evaluators with employee-like access is a great idea, and we will do the same. We'll have more to share soon.

So what is going on at OpenAI?!
BREAKING: OpenAI might have stolen another major proof. In a detailed Mastodon post, which I report in full in the comments, Andreas Thom presents several pieces of evidence suggesting that OpenAI may have trained Astra on conversations in which he and Gábor Kun were working on Gromov’s soficity conjecture, one of the ten problems OpenAI later announced Astra had solved. I know Andreas. We met several times early in our careers. He is an exceptional mathematician, a leading expert on sofic and hyperlinear groups, and one of the most respected scholars in the field. He has spent two decades working on this problem. If his account is correct, this is not a minor dispute over attribution. It would mean that unpublished human work was absorbed into a model and then presented to the world as a breakthrough by the model itself. And if the allegations raised by Levent Alpöge, Tristan Buckmaster, and now Andreas Thom are all substantiated, we are no longer looking at isolated incidents. We may be looking at one of the greatest intellectual scandals in the history of science. AI is not discovering new mathematics. AI is stealing human discovery.

We’re sharing a solution to the Navier-Stokes Millennium Prize Problem, one of the deepest problems at the frontier of mathematics. The proof was produced by a group of agents, using an OpenAI next-generation model significantly more capable than GPT-6 Astra. The problem concerns whether the description of smooth three-dimensional fluid motion modeled by the Navier-Stokes equations can break down. It has remained unresolved for roughly 90 years.

Big day! Claude Cowork is coming to web and mobile, so Claude can keep working while your computer is closed. This is a major update to Cowork. It combines the power of giving Claude access to your context, an advanced loop for long-running tasks, and the convenience of not needing your laptop to be open.
