A Jacuzzi is a person. Seven of them, actually.
The Jacuzzi brothers came from northern Italy and built aircraft propellers in
California. Their laminated "Toothpick" propeller flew in the First World War,
and by 1920 they'd built one of the first aeroplanes with an enclosed cabin.
In 1921 it crashed. Giocondo Jacuzzi was 26.
Their mother forbade the family from building another aircraft. So they turned
the same pump engineering toward water — wells for Californian farms.
Twenty years later, Candido built a pump for his son's bath. Kenneth had
rheumatoid arthritis since he was fifteen months old.
It was sold as medical equipment.
Here's the part that gets me: a propeller and a pump impeller are the same
object. Angled blades that move a fluid. The family never changed trades —
they pointed the same geometry at water instead of air.
Now the word just means a hot tub. Nobody remembers it's a surname.
That's the best thing that can happen to a brand name, and the worst thing
that can happen to a trademark, at the same time.

This is the perfect example of why .ai won’t be replaced by .si.
Both terms can coexist because they have different meanings. AI is not SI. Stop trying to make one replace the other.

𝗦𝘂𝗽𝗲𝗿𝗶𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗹𝗹𝗶𝗴𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗲, 𝗼𝗿 𝗦𝗜, was already on the horizon, with or without Trump’s announcement.
It has been part of the 𝗶𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗹𝗹𝗶𝗴𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗲 𝗰𝗼𝗻𝘁𝗶𝗻𝘂𝘂𝗺 for decades.
The word itself goes back even further. The 𝗢𝘅𝗳𝗼𝗿𝗱 𝗘𝗻𝗴𝗹𝗶𝘀𝗵 𝗗𝗶𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝗮𝗿𝘆 traces its earliest known use to the 𝟭𝟴𝟮𝟬𝘀, long before modern computers.
In 𝟭𝟵𝟲𝟱, 𝗜. 𝗝. 𝗚𝗼𝗼𝗱 laid out a foundational argument for 𝗺𝗮𝗰𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗲 𝘀𝘂𝗽𝗲𝗿𝗶𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗹𝗹𝗶𝗴𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗲: an “ultraintelligent machine” could surpass human intellect and design even better machines, triggering an 𝗶𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗹𝗹𝗶𝗴𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗲 𝗲𝘅𝗽𝗹𝗼𝘀𝗶𝗼𝗻 that would leave human intelligence far behind.
In 𝟮𝟬𝟭𝟰, Oxford philosopher 𝗡𝗶𝗰𝗸 𝗕𝗼𝘀𝘁𝗿𝗼𝗺 published Superintelligence: Paths, Dangers, Strategies, helping popularize the modern term. He defined it as an intellect that greatly exceeds human cognitive performance in 𝘃𝗶𝗿𝘁𝘂𝗮𝗹𝗹𝘆 𝗮𝗹𝗹 𝗱𝗼𝗺𝗮𝗶𝗻𝘀 𝗼𝗳 𝗶𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗲𝘀𝘁.
Today, we are in the 𝗮𝗴𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗶𝗰 𝗔𝗜 𝗽𝗵𝗮𝘀𝗲, with 𝗺𝘂𝗹𝘁𝗶-𝗮𝗴𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝘀𝘆𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗺𝘀 already coordinating and carrying out complex tasks. 𝗔𝗚𝗜, or general intelligence, represents the next major capability milestone.
It seems inevitable that 𝗔𝗦𝗜, 𝗼𝗿 𝘀𝗶𝗺𝗽𝗹𝘆 𝗦𝗜, will follow. The timeline is uncertain, but the idea, concept, and pursuit have been around for a long time.

Beware of privacy issue when buying/selling a .si domain name - domainnamewire.com/2026/10/0…
Let's not forget, when the .si boom hit, @Dynadot was the first to step up. Bashing them over registry errors from an unexpected mass load isn't fair. Transferring is your right & the alternatives are great too, but Dynadot remains a solid, vital part of the domain industry. 🤝

We just released a new solution for accurate availability results for .si domain searches. Let me know how it goes. 🤞

Bear case for .si:
1. AI has all the brand recognition. Companies have spent years building around the term. Replacing it with SI would require a much broader cultural shift.
2. Trump's terminology mandate applies to the federal executive branch. It doesn't compel companies to adopt the term (and many wont)
3. Registrations aren't end-user demand. A speculative buying frenzy can happen without meaningful startup adoption.
4. Political terminology can be temporary. A future administration could reverse the directive, and the underlying technology sector might continue using AI regardless.

The concept of 𝗦𝘂𝗽𝗲𝗿𝗶𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗹𝗹𝗶𝗴𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗲 or 𝗦𝘂𝗽𝗲𝗿 𝗜𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗹𝗹𝗶𝗴𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗲 (𝗦𝗜) has been around a lot longer than most think.
The first recorded use of the noun 𝗦𝗨𝗣𝗘𝗥𝗜𝗡𝗧𝗘𝗟𝗟𝗜𝗚𝗘𝗡𝗖𝗘 dates back to the 𝟭𝟴𝟮𝟬𝘀.
According to the Oxford English Dictionary, the earliest known evidence of the term appears around 𝟭𝟴𝟮𝟮 in the writings of 𝗥. 𝗛. 𝗕𝗹𝗮𝗰𝗸.
However, how the term is understood depends entirely on the context:
𝟭. 𝗜𝗻 𝗖𝗼𝗺𝗽𝘂𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 & 𝗔𝗿𝘁𝗶𝗳𝗶𝗰𝗶𝗮𝗹 𝗜𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗹𝗹𝗶𝗴𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗲 (𝗖𝗼𝗻𝗰𝗲𝗽𝘁)
The core technological concept of machine superintelligence was first articulated by mathematician 𝗜. 𝗝. 𝗚𝗼𝗼𝗱 in his 𝟭𝟵𝟲𝟱 paper, “Speculations Concerning the First Ultraintelligent Machine.”
He described an “ultraintelligent machine” that could far surpass human cognitive abilities and spark an “intelligence explosion” via recursive self-improvement.
𝟮. 𝗠𝗼𝗱𝗲𝗿𝗻 𝗔𝗜 𝗟𝗶𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗮𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗲 & 𝗣𝗼𝗽𝘂𝗹𝗮𝗿𝗶𝘇𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻
The explicit compound term “artificial superintelligence” (ASI) or “superintelligence” became a fixture of modern tech policy and philosophy after being popularized by philosopher 𝗡𝗶𝗰𝗸 𝗕𝗼𝘀𝘁𝗿𝗼𝗺.
He wrote a foundational paper on the topic in the late 1990s and later published the 𝟮𝟬𝟭𝟰 New York Times bestselling book, 𝙎𝙪𝙥𝙚𝙧𝙞𝙣𝙩𝙚𝙡𝙡𝙞𝙜𝙚𝙣𝙘𝙚: 𝙋𝙖𝙩𝙝𝙨, 𝘿𝙖𝙣𝙜𝙚𝙧𝙨, 𝙎𝙩𝙧𝙖𝙩𝙚𝙜𝙞𝙚𝙨.
𝟯. 𝗥𝗲𝗰𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗣𝗼𝗹𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗰𝗮𝗹 𝗥𝗲𝗯𝗿𝗮𝗻𝗱𝗶𝗻𝗴
The term entered mainstream government nomenclature in 𝗦𝗲𝗽𝘁𝗲𝗺𝗯𝗲𝗿 𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟲, when 𝗣𝗿𝗲𝘀𝗶𝗱𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗗𝗼𝗻𝗮𝗹𝗱 𝗧𝗿𝘂𝗺𝗽 announced during a United Nations General Assembly speech that the United States would officially replace the term “artificial intelligence” with 𝗦𝗨𝗣𝗘𝗥 𝗜𝗡𝗧𝗘𝗟𝗟𝗜𝗚𝗘𝗡𝗖𝗘 (𝗦𝗜) in all government documents.
Trump argued that the word “artificial” made the technology sound “fake.”

This holds much more weight than any domain investor buying .si domain names.
End user participation is what will drive value.
In total this week, I’ve only heard from *one* startup that is even remotely .si curious.
For any non-mainstream TLD become a legit option, some company needs to build on it and then do very well, raise money and get a lot of traction. Which then gives other startups “permission” to use that TLD, as well.
Kind of like what @NotionHQ did for .so.

This from @TLDInvestors interesting, and not too encouraging for .si. He looked at highest 100 .ai sales and checked status of .si. tldinvestors.com/2026/09/i-t…
