What I've learnt about getting work done is that the less you work the less you can work. The inverse applies too

Competition does not exist.
I've shared my knowledge with so many people and some of them outpaced me on the journey
But, it means they saw something that I didn't see. A new path, a new service, a new way of client acquisiton
It means that now I can be the one asking for advice and will get to the same level 10x faster. Literally same scenario as before, but we just switched
This loop is infinite. The more knowledge you give, the more people will eventually outpace you, the more you can then learn from them and progress faster as well
I was bothered by how out of place and ugly this design looked. After wasting an hour finding fonts I luckily found this talk by @strongeron
link to the talk btw youtube.com/watch?v=0fQhhEM1…

The people who start the wars don’t fight them, the people who spend the taxes don’t pay them, and the people who forgive the criminals don’t live next to them.
Of course we’re going to have too many wars, too much spending, and too much crime.

It may not have been your choice to be
- fat
- unhealthy
- poor
- uneducated
Life’s not fair, never has been.
BUT if you are reading this, then staying any of those things is a CHOICE you are making every day.
It won’t be easy or quick, but you can change.
A job honestly doesn’t give you the time, space and opportunity to chase your dreams and achieve your goals.
From personal experience I can tell you working a serious job is modern day slavery.
They pay you a small amount for doing a significant amount of work and promise you promotion.
Best advice is to make investments and take calculated risks that would guarantee your success.
Being a dev, design is the perfect side hustle for me.
I work on the frontend and the backend and tbh I'd happily be the one designing and building stuff rather than this fragmented way things are done now.
A lot of designers care about making things look pretty and create eye candy instead of things which can actually be built in a timely fashion while taking performance into consideration.
If the roles merge, it'd be for the better.
Minimum skills new designers will need in 2025+ to keep job:
- ux
- ui
- graphics
- typography
- layout + composition
- ai
Notice I did not say:
- systems (nice to have)
- tools (change constantly)
- dev (nice to have but by 2026-7 likely required)
- years experience
- strict process
To standout add:
- dev
- marketing
- strategy
- better research
- part of strong community
- writing
- photography
- videography
- 3d
You can hate me all you want, but this is the way it use to be (without AI) and I think we’re headed back there.
Before we split into different roles, if you didn’t do Flash development you were a graphic designer. If you did Flash, you were multimedia. Designers could do everything—we had to and it made us incredible at what we do. Rarer to see now but those that get it stand out big time.
Now days designers don’t understand basic graphic design and jump straight to UX but get stuck there because the visual side is hard and like it or not, takes a good eye and a bit of artistic ability.
Basically, just become a good designer at enough skills by yourself to make a solid website and you’ll already be leaps forward than most.
Just remember “good designer” means different things to different people. Make your good mean something to those that matter.
If you are reading this, I want you to know that you are capable of achieving great things.
No matter what challenges you may be facing, never give up on your dreams and never stop working towards your goals.
