One of the funniest things about Halloween is watching Protestants condemn it as pagan and demonic while having absolutely no idea what the name even means. Halloween. All Hallows' Eve. The eve of All Saints' Day. Tomorrow, Catholics throughout the world will honor the saints who have gone before us in Christ. What adds to the humor, in a very sad way, is the irony that these same Protestants will happily celebrate Reformation Day instead, commemorating a movement that shattered Western Christian unity and gave rise to centuries of division, thousands of denominations, and contradictory doctrines. Honoring the saints in Heaven? Idolatry. Celebrating the division of Christendom? Glorious. You genuinely cannot make this stuff up.

Attention Young Men: “I am surrounded by 20-year-old girls in my life who are smart, capable, hard-working, and cute.” Note: none of these qualities indicate that they are good partners. Step 1: Hobbies are fine; addictions are not. Steps 2–4: Hygiene is important (this advice is so obvious it can come across as patronizing). Steps 5–7: Don’t go to female-dominant activities for the express purpose of finding a date. Do go to activities to enjoy them, and talk to the people (men and women) you meet there to expand your social circle. Steps 8–10: Plan a date. Clean up well. Flowers are optional. Step 11: Be curious about your date. Don’t talk about yourself too much. I can see why people dislike this post. In classic boomer fashion, the advice feels patronizing and outdated, but it’s also given with good intentions.
Attention Young Men: I am surrounded by 20 year old girls in my life that are smart, capable, hard working and cute. Nobody is dating them. Not sure what the deal is, but I don’t get it. Step 1: Stop playing video games Step 2: Head to great clips and get that lettuce cleaned up Step 3: Hit a shower (when dating hygiene is critical) Step 4: Go clean your car Step 5: Sign up for a yoga class Step 6: Go to the yoga class Step 7: Ask a cute for her phone number at yoga class (yes you can meet girls IRL and not just on the apps - 10/10 the Dirt Dog highly recommends) Step 8: Follow up within 2 days with a phone call and ask them out for this coming weekend Friday or Saturday night. Step 9: IMPORTANT - come up with a good game plane for date night. Get a dinner reservation, get an activity planned. Let them know in advance what you are doing so they can dress appropriately. I know you are gunna roll off the couch and head to date night, but they are not. They are going to stress about what to wear and call at least 6 different people on FaceTime to ask their opinion. Step 10: I highly recommend you bring flowers to the door step. I’m not covering that you go to the doorstep, because if you don’t do that you have no hope here. Women want men to date them. You don’t need to break the bank on flowers. Head to Trader Joe’s. Grab 2 different kinds of flowers. If you don’t know what matches find the closest looking lady to your mom at TJ’s and ask her. Wrap the 2 flowers into 1 bouquet with paper. Bonus Points you can cut open a TJ bag and use that as the paper. Step 11: Be a gentleman on the date. She isn’t there to hear your life story. Ask her about her. For every 1 question you answer, ask her 3. Open Doors, pay for the meal, be polite. Provided you follow most of this guideline you are highly likely to get yourself an opportunity for date number 2. Keep going until you find someone that you can’t imagine not being around all the time. That’s when you have found a good one for you. My life is complete with my wife as my companion. I wish you the same fortune in life. Happy Hunting.

'False compassion is a pity shown not to the family of the murdered, but to the murderer' This is Fulton Sheen's most prophetic speech He goes off on the 'throat slashers' 'perverts' 'degenerates' who have made the decent man 'practically off the reservation'

Catholic friends, I just became acquainted with a new app that is perfect for refreshing and supplementing your faith. The format gives you bite sized nuggets to chew on and puzzles to solve. It is very engaging. @creedoapp creedo.faith/login?ref=PwpcG…

Prices so high. The same meal is double from a few years ago. This is not sustainable. The bazillionaires need to rollback their schemes or the people they milk will be dry. For now, pray....and learn to cook.

Today's argument du jour does show one thing very well. The level of discourse and the quality of the rhetoric is abysmal. People aren't thinking things through after reading.

I needed to move a sofa. I mentioned this to an American. He said, "You know anybody with a truck?" I did not know anybody with a truck. He looked at me with real concern. Not pity. Concern. The way you look at a man who has told you he does not have a name. "You gotta know somebody with a truck." I asked how one acquires such a person. He said, "You just do." This is the third time I have received that answer in this country. It is the answer to everything here. You just do. There is no process. There is only the eventual fact of having. He said, "Ask Kevin." I do not know a Kevin. He said Kevin like I should. He said it the way you say a shared uncle. I met Kevin four days later. Kevin owns a truck. Kevin does not own a truck for himself. Nobody owns a truck for themselves. Kevin owns a truck for a fifteen mile radius. Inside I said: THIS MAN HAS TAKEN A VOW. HE DID NOT ANNOUNCE IT. HE SIMPLY PURCHASED A BED AND ACCEPTED THE CONSEQUENCES. Kevin arrived on Saturday. He brought the truck. He also brought a second man. I had not asked for a second man. The second man's name is Tony. Tony came because Kevin came. Tony did not know me. Tony did not ask what we were moving. Tony brought gloves. They moved the sofa in eleven minutes. I offered them money. Both of them laughed at the same time, which felt rehearsed and was not. I asked what I owed them. Kevin said, "Buy the pizza." That is the price. That is the entire economy. The truck costs one pizza and the pizza is not negotiable and the pizza is also not expensive and everyone knows what size. Inside I said: THE FEE IS FIXED ACROSS THE ENTIRE NATION AND WAS SET BY NO ONE. We ate on the floor because the sofa was against the wall and none of us wanted to be the first to sit on it. Tony told me his daughter plays soccer. I asked if she is good. He said, "She's aggressive." I still think about that. Three weeks later, Kevin texted me. "You free Sunday? Helping Tony move a fridge." He did not ask if I wanted to. He informed me of a fridge. Inside I said: I HAVE BEEN CALLED UP. I DID NOT ENLIST. THE PAPERS WERE FILED ON MY BEHALF. I went. I moved the fridge. I have no truck. I contributed only arms. Afterward, a man I had never met asked me if I knew anybody with a truck. I said, "Yeah, I got a guy." I have a guy. I am somebody's guy now, too. Tony has told two people about me. He describes me as "the guy who's strong for his size." I have never been prouder of a sentence in my life.

Catholic twitter has a modesty dumpster fire raging. Modesty is not something you impose. You can impose standards, but not modesty. It is a virtue that each individual must practice in themselves. It's application is subjective. It is about behavior, not only attire.

Replying to @JoshuaTCharles
Perhaps, "if she says no..." she rejects the particular man's definition of modest attire, not Christ's authority. Perhaps she is taken aback by the bold presumption of superiority on the part of the young man. Such a POV could come off as rude if not handled delicately.

FTR, this is something I helped develop when this question came up before. Minimum coverage standard for Mass...including, obviously, shoes.

It is now popular for disgusting schismatic "trad" Catholics to deny Divine Mercy and St. Faustina. Here is a complete response to their lies. Three videos debunking everything. 🧵

Today, it is painfully clear that social media needs a sarcasm font. Sincere posts and sarcastic posts look identical. "You need to understand that his family couldn't afford an attorney." This could go either way, depending on the knowledge of the poster.
