it is no coincidence that the market is seeing relief on the day of the WoW: Forever release

WoW: Forever launches today.
Fun fact: the @Razer Naga started with me texting one-handed on a T9 keypad mid-raid, wondering how many buttons we could fit under a gamer's thumb.
12 buttons later, here we are.
Younger readers may need to Google T9.

having tried my best to intuit the motives of the protesters in France today, I am struck by the fact that two of the most treasured pillars of the European postwar order are colliding:
1. unfettered immigration, especially from former colonies, justified by historical obligation and postcolonial guilt
2. protecting pensions and the elderly at all costs, even to the point of extreme fiscal strain
now you have first and second generation immigrants, as well as young native french people, taking to the streets because the french state is hell-bent on extracting whatever it can and feeding it into the maw of boomer luxury communism.
the younger generation is being asked to accept a deteriorating deal: pay more, receive less, and abandon the expectation of matching the living standard of their parents or grandparents.
the young immigrant newcomers have even less incentive to accept any kind this bargain. they are not bought in to the french social contract. they have no common identity with the french boomers they are being asked to sustain. they resent the fact that the entire machinery of the state is designed to exploit the young to serve the old.
the old do not care about the immigrants enough to trade away any of their entitlements for them. they have the advantage as they wield the franchise reliably and their share of the electorate is only growing, so they won't accept a decline in their own standard of living to fund a future they will never live to see.
now these two groups are on a collision course.
ironically, immigration was intended to ameliorate the worsening fiscal picture brought about by a demographic transition. but this did not happen. studies have repeatedly shown that immigrants do increase aggregate GDP (by simple brute force, by adding to population), but not the fiscal picture [1]. the most comprehensive paper using real-world data [2] segments immigrant types to France and finds non-EU immigrants to be persistently fiscally negative. EU immigrants by contrast are the most fiscally positive group, meaning that studies that consider immigrants as a whole are masking the negative impact of non-western immigrants (and Algeria, Morocco, and Tunisia rank #1 and #2 and #4. Africa accounts for 50% of the 8 million immigrants living in France today.)
immigration has not caused France's fiscal crisis. but it hasn't bettered the economic picture at all – it has deteriorated it somewhat – and it has created a combustible demographic that has little allegiance to the French nation. far from helping France deal with its aging workforce, immigration has added fiscal burden and created a permanent, non-assimilated disenfranchised underclass. the original justifications for immigration – labor scarcity, postcolonial obligation, and more recently workforce aging – have largely failed to manifest the promised results.
the pro-immigrationist policy has been defended in Brussels as necessary to defend the welfare state, but it has expanded the population making claims on the state, without eliminating the need for fiscal adjustments.
France now has an aging electorate aiming to preserve the benefits it was promised, mingled with a younger more diverse population that questions whether it will ever receive a similar deal. the young are vastly outmatched at the ballot box and so they take to the streets.
the french establishment is now trying to preserve a tenuous status quo: unlimited intergenerational obligations alongside a neverending immigration regime that continually changes the composition of the society intended to honor those obligations. the immigration regime also actively worsens the fiscal picture while creating these cultural fractures and inculcating a society more prone to sectarian violence.
the french state will have to renegotiate its social contract and disempower one of these groups. electoral gravity suggests that the old will continue to win until France finally reaches default and creditors renegotiate the welfare state for them.
the major contenders in 27 take different approaches to this tradeoff:
- the right in Le Pen looks to reduce immigration-related expenditure and focus public spending on French citizens, while resisting retirement age increases
- Macron in the center aims to control immigration somewhat and reform pensions by raising retirement age
- Melenchon's left, largely behind the protests this week, denies the tradeoff and aims to keep funding pensions and retirement at 60 while increasing immigration. as France has very little fiscal space it's unclear how this would be paid for
whether the french social contract can be peacefully renegotiated remains to be seen.
[1] For France, immigrants' net fiscal contribution averaged -0.85% of GDP over 2006-2018 when all public expenditure was allocated (and this includes ALL categories of immigrants including European, American and Asian) See: oecd.org/en/publications/int…

So many people have DM’d me about this trailer and I’ll be honest, watching it made me physically throw up.
I was COO from before FTX even had a name, it was my baby, and I was the last one out of the Bahamas after Sam got extradited. I lost everything I had on it and it took me a long time to get over, so I have zero interest in defending the people who caused this.
The media loves the story that FTX blew up because we were all partying in the Bahamas, but the place I worked looked nothing like that.
We had under 200 people in the core company at its peak, not counting subsidiaries, when other exchanges our size had thousands, so a lot of us were doing 16 to 18 hour days for over three years and barely had time to sleep, and whenever we walked in, day or night, Sam was at his desk.
I worked with Caroline and never once saw her get aggressive like she does in this trailer. She’s quiet and mild, and often lost in her own thoughts.
Most of us didn’t even know she and Sam were dating until we read about it after the bankruptcy, and I never saw him so much as put an arm around anyone.
FTX’s collapse ruined so many people’s lives, including ours, and Netflix decided to make it a love story.
Shame on you @netflix.

Here's our plan for quantum-safe, unlinkable, rotating taddrs. Possible with Zcash, today.
While others are worrying about the viability of rotating transparent addresses, we're already solving linkability.

What is this dogshit lmfao?
None of this happened, esp not how it’s being depicted here.
Caroline was a crackhead femcel and joined Alameda Research, she wasn’t exclusively some romantic duo with SBF.
She was a braindead quant at best.
SBF pivoted Alameda Research into becoming an exchange [FTX] after flaunting LARP delta neural leaderboard PnLs and then got his foot in the door with the best VC dealflow.
Not to mention his own vapour scams.
There was never this “us two against the world” bullshit LMAO.
They was just two ugly niggaz fucking high off ket, whilst dumping paper fake BTC to “hunt” high leverage traders on their exchange.
Not to mention Trabucco the homo who was actually the mastermind.

The @zama confidential RFQ has started trading in private beta with a handful of selected traders. Here is an example trade which is super cool: swapping a confidential steakcUSDC vault position for cUSDC. This allows you to effectively exit your vault position confidentially instantly, even if all the vault liquidity is currently lent.

Yesterday we unstaked a large slug of HYPE. We did not unstake to sell.
This is why privacy matters. Our funds are constantly tracked, forcing regular wallet rotations. Institutions need privacy to operate. This is why we’re long $ZAMA and $ZEC. Zama unlocks private defi, Zcash is the leading private store of value chain.
As capital markets continue to move onchain, privacy is paramount.

Depending on the data provider you use, the amount that Steakhouse manages on Morpho differs, but it's not remotely close to $4.5b, it's $1b on Morpho's website.
Steakhouse vaults generally charge no management fee and a performance fee of 5–10% on PnL generated for depositors. Assuming they manage $2b of total TVL and typical stablecoin vault yields of 3–5%, gross annual yield generated is $60m–$100m. Factoring in a performance fee, Steakhouse retains $3m–$10m per year on a gross basis.
There's no liquid environment in today's market where a curator would command a +$1b val.
Separate comment, this is a reason why in my opinion with where yields trade in the current market, that DeFi lending protocols have been pausing on rolling out fee switches.
steakhouse financial runs $4.5b in morpho vaults charging 0.5-2% management fees. that's $22m-$90m/year in revenue from a defi-native asset manager with no token. gauntlet, re7, wintermute all building the same playbook. when curator tokens eventually launch they price like blackrock not like another yield farm. $100m revenue = $1b+ valuation for an entity that exists today with zero tradeable exposure. the morpho base layer printed an entire asset management industry and you can't buy equity in any of it yet
