Overdue announcement - I'm officially a tenured Associate Professor in Economics at @LoyolaMarymount I feel so grateful to my community of friends, family, mentors, colleagues, and collaborators who have supported me on my journey. Time to pay it forward!
@MackenzieAlsto4 - Thank you for nudging me to state it publicly!
My favorite conference - and it keeps getting better. Keep an eye out for it next year if you work in African development. It’s generally funded if your paper is selected for discussion!
Over the past two days, we've convened scholars from 14 countries for our annual Working Group on African Political Economy (WGAPE) meeting!
Hosted this year at @StrathU, the program included 7 papers and a presentation from @tom_wein about @IDinsight's Dignity Project.
Let's work to make economics a more welcoming and inclusive place. EJMR does not reflect that and we should hold the toxic folks accountable. I signed the petition - please consider doing so yourself!
Friends and #EconTwitter: I have started a petition to request the AEA to help pursue libel and threats on the EJMR. Please spread the word and sign if you are able. forms.gle/GQxF54eXkMXFpGrC7

This thread is for young ‘uns from poor countries who want to do development economics. We got a paper out that we wrote about South Africa, where a couple of the authors are from. Many people tell you writing about your home country is a bad idea

I agree although job market candidates for jobs at smaller schools would be wise to remember that we are interested in hiring you because there is potentially nobody in your field in the audience
Tl;dr tailor your talk to the audience
