One of the most catchy names among those dropped in the reshuffle is Adolf Mwesigye, a former outstanding MP/Minister, who wrote to the appointing authority expressing availability to take up a vacancy! He caught the eye of the Principal who offered him a juicier position of Clerk to Parliament. Never be shy to ask for what you want. Uganda never ceases to amaze.

“The positions that you hold today only have meaning in so far as you are able to advance the interests of #Uganda.” Speaking at the University Students Leaders Convention 2026 at the Parliament of Uganda yesterday, the E.D of @theJNLC, Dr. Nansozi K. Muwanga (@NansoziKM), reminded student leaders that their time in office is both a preparation and a responsibility for what lies ahead. She noted that people often blame others for holding them back, saying they would do better if someone had not undermined them. Her answer was direct, “You hold that responsibility. You hold that position. Make it count.” The lessons they learn, the values they carry and the example they set for the students coming after them will matter long after their terms in office have ended. #UniversityStudentsLeadersConvention2026 #JNLC

Yesterday, I had the honour of organising the University Student Leaders Convention 2026 at the Parliament of Uganda, in partnership with the National Institute for Multiparty Democracy @NimdUganda , Julius Nyerere Leadership Training Centre @TheJNLC , and the East Africa Young Leaders Forum @EAYLF_official , with the support of the @Parliament_Ug
The convention brought together student leaders from 65 universities across the country for an important engagement with national leadership. It was graced by the Rt. Hon. @ObothOboth , Speaker of Parliament, as the Chief Guest.
The convention provided a vital platform for us to present students’ concerns directly to the country’s leadership and engage in meaningful conversations about the future of higher education in Uganda.
In my submissions, I highlighted the rising cost of higher education, particularly how taxes imposed on private institutions can ultimately translate into higher tuition fees for students. I also raised concerns about the increasing cost of food, which makes access to affordable meals difficult for many students, and the growing cost of accommodation, where finding safe and affordable places to stay has become increasingly challenging.
I further emphasised the need to review the support extended to government-sponsored students in light of today’s economic realities.
Our appeal is not to overlook the country’s economic realities or national development priorities, but to encourage practical conversations and policies that protect students while contributing to the country’s progress.
I sincerely thank the Rt. Hon. Jacob Mackson Oboth Oboth, Members of Parliament @SamBegira ,@GeraldKaruhanga , other dignitaries, student leaders from across Uganda, and everyone who contributed to making this convention a success.
I am equally grateful to @Makerere and the Prime XI Executive Team for their support throughout this journey.
Student leadership must be about dialogue and solutions, not just identifying problems. We cannot build the Uganda we want tomorrow while ignoring the realities of the students who will inherit it.
The future of this country must also make sense to the young people preparing to lead it

Yesterday at @Parliament_Ug, I had the privilege of delivering a keynote address on behalf of @EAYLF_official at the University Student Leaders’ Convention.
I emphasized that students can shape Uganda today, not just lead it tomorrow, through service, innovation, honest leadership, accountability, and respectful dialogue.
My sincere thanks to the Office of the Guild Speaker @Makerere @TrevisMuhwezi, along with other co-organizers @NimdUganda @TheJNLC and @Parliament_Ug @ObothOboth for their financial support and for making this event possible.

This evening, I graced the University Student Leaders’ Convention at Parliament under the theme, “The Role of University Student Leadership in Advancing National Development, Social Cohesion, Peace and Unity in Uganda.”
I was joined by Hon. Gerald Karuhanga, a former Guild President, the Clerk to Parliament, and student leaders from 65 universities and institutions of higher learning, alongside 10 secondary school coordinators.
I reminded them that President Yoweri Museveni, Hon. Karuhanga and many of us once sat where they sit today.
I told them what they do in that seat determines where they go because tudent leadership is a process, not a product.
I urged them to stay focused, whatever the hardships. Using my own story, I emphasized that they don’t need a godfather to get where they want to be; they only need God in their lives.
The students raised genuine concerns: inadequate accommodation, costly feeding, fairness in the student loan scheme, campus security, health and welfare, and road safety near institutions.
Parliament will consider these once we receive their written submission.
Parliament is your House. We shall host you every year and build a mentorship programme.
I thank the Julius Nyerere Leadership Centre and the Netherlands Institute for Multiparty Democracy for their partnership.

Today, the Council of African Political Parties (CAPP) elected me, alongside my elder sister, Dr. Asha-Rose Migiro, Secretary General of Tanzania’s Chama Cha Mapinduzi (CCM) @ccm_tanzania as Vice Chairpersons representing East Africa.
I am deeply honoured by this responsibility. It is a reminder that whatever we do within our respective political organisations goes beyond our national borders. The continent is watching, and our actions must reflect our shared aspirations for a united, peaceful and prosperous Africa.
