Members wore red at the company awards ceremony this week to show pride in our colleagues’ work. Do leaders share that pride? AP execs are undercutting our journalism while honoring the best of our journalists. We call for a reinstatement of our expert photo and video producers.

Reese's Pieces have no chocolate in them. The peanuts had their oil pressed out and a cheaper fat put back in. Sugar is first, then partially defatted peanuts, then hydrogenated palm kernel and soybean oil, then corn syrup solids. Everything after that is 2% or less, and it's the dyes, the glaze, some vanillin and a little milk. There's no cocoa anywhere. Partially defatted just means the peanuts went through a press. The peanut oil comes out one side and gets sold as peanut oil. What's left is a dry peanut flour, and that's what the center is made from, because flour holds a shape in a panning drum and doesn't go rancid. Then they put fat back in, and the fat they picked is hydrogenated palm kernel oil, which is solid at room temperature and costs less than peanut oil. You can see the swap on the panel. 38 pieces have 6 g of fat and all 6 are saturated. Peanut oil is mostly unsaturated, so that number isn't the peanut. The shell is sugar with 4 dyes and a coat of shellac.

Some pretty pointed comments from Sonny Gray about when he was pulled. Very emotional. Made a point to highlight how good he's been the 3rd time through the order.

Replying to @USATODAY
@USATODAY is cutting resources from newsrooms like @detroitnews while expecting more from us. They still refuse to agree to a fair contract. It's time for the company to agree to a fair contract and show they actually value journalists, not just shareholders.

My family is in a worse financial position since @usatoday bought @detroitnews because of increased health insurance costs. We are back at the bargaining table today. Time for USAT to show they value journalists - not just shareholders - by agreeing to a fair contract.

@FOX2News Mike Rogers held a campaign event today in Macomb County. We attended, and our reporter, Scott Wolcheck, was not called on during the Q&A. This is what happened when we tried to talk to his media team about getting one-on-one time with Rogers. Multiple FOX 2 reporters and anchors have tried to get in touch with Rogers and his campaign, but time with the Republican nominee for U.S. Senate has not been made available.

Yesterday, McClatchy laid off more than 90 unionized media workers across 17 publications. The departure of these talented reporters, visual journalists & writers will immediately leave gaping holes in local coverage for dozens of communities across the US.

A beautiful obit for Vin Cherwoo. I will never forget spending Christmas Eve together finalizing bargaining on the AP contract. He never complained how long the work took, he was always there to serve apnews.com/article/vin-cherw…

1/4 @AP has told some video and photo guild members in the U.S. that the last day for those affected by layoffs will be August 21. Meanwhile the company is actively hiring for these same jobs in India.

While everyone's up in arms about the em dash, let's not forget about the power of a well-placed semicolon. Our detailed guidance begins, "In general, use the semicolon to indicate a greater separation of thought and information than a comma can convey but less than the separation that a period implies."

When AP's work requires more care and experience than ever, why replace U.S. journalists?

AP wants to lay off 30 more U.S. journalists and move those roles to India. That’s after laying off or buying out nearly 150 U.S. staffers over the past two years.

Last week, @AP inexplicably laid off @godovasquez. Today, in yet another reminder of how shortsighted that decision was, he won the prestigious @deadlineclub award for Best Sports Photo of this amazing shot!

The @AP's coverage of the Butler assassination attempt was a finalist for the Pulitzer Prize for Breaking News. Three people I worked with on that coverage are now gone from AP via layoffs or buyouts, taking with them great skill, sourcing and decades of institutional knowledge.
Another hall of fame class of journalists is leaving @AP — this one involuntarily via layoffs. Reporters in big cities and state capitols. People who’ve broken some of the biggest stories of our time and improved the public’s understanding of important issues. It’s heartbreaking.
