Higher interest rates have made family offices more selective about investing in real estate, with many focusing on highly discounted properties and assets with strong pricing power, chief investment officers told CNBC. Rob Haugen of Michels Family Office said uncertainty over where interest rates are headed has made the firm pickier about investing in the asset class. Haugen oversees private capital investments, mergers and acquisitions at the family office and is also the chief investment officer of its spinout firm River1 Asset Management. Why We Don’t Invite Guest Artists to Our Church — Pastor Dolapo Lawal Reveals Pastor Dolapo Lawal explained in one of his sermons why his church does not invite guest artists simply to attract a crowd. He said, “If you can’t come to church for the Word of God, stay at home.” He explained that Pastor Nathaniel Bassey is a prophet, which is why he was invited to their camp meeting. He added that the invitation was not motivated by a desire to attract a large crowd. Pastor Dolapo Lawal also expressed concern about what he described as false salvation in today’s Christianity, arguing that many people who attend church in this generation have not genuinely experienced salvation.

5 OF THE LARGEST TEN BANKS IN THE US HAVE NOW ENTERED A BEAR MARKET TERRITORY. Bank of America: -23.5% Wells Fargo: -20.1% Goldman Sachs: -24% Morgan Stanley: -24% Capital One: -25% Along with this, the KBW Nasdaq Bank Index has dropped 15.6% from its peak and has hit a 5-month low. Historically, bank stocks peak before the recession, and if this decline continues, it'll be a sign that there's a lot of trouble ahead for the US economy.

Two brothers @kwok_phil and @dom_kwok moved back into their childhood bedrooms to build a company that made no money. Today @easya_app is worth $1.1B, with over 1M users, and it never took outside funding. My conversation with Dom and Phil Kwok is live on @Inc inc.com/tobi-opeyemi-amure/e…

The best kind of cheque as a startup founder is from repeat investors—people who come back to say, ‘Take more of my money.’ We had three such occurrences last week, and it makes me glad. It sends the message: “We believe in you, and we're here with you.” 🧡

They prolly didn’t teach you this in school A mutual fund’s return, relative to the risk free rate in Nigeria, actually any country the fund operates in, should tell you well enough about its risk profile, you know, how risky the assets in it are. In Nigeria, for instance, the CBN’s 364-day Treasury bill auction stop rate was 15.85% as of October 7, 2026. So, if a fund is returning 20% annually, you should be asking what risks you’re taking to earn that extra 4.15 percentage points above the bill rate. The higher the risk, the higher the return you are expected to demand for taking it on (explains why loan apps charge “ridiculous” rates, cos they’re loaning without collateral, odikwa very risky) The risk-free rate is your benchmark. It represents the return you can earn with minimal credit risk, typically proxied by government backed securities in a country. Of course, this is a starting point, not a complete measure of risk. You still need to consider volatility, liquidity, credit risk and the fund’s underlying assets. But never look at returns in isolation.

100%. GB is very solid. He texted me the very week Pewbeam launched: “Good work, how can I support you?” I love the CEO he has become, not just in FW but in the African tech ecosystem.
This FLW vs Bachs shows GB is quite a progressive and hands on leader. He monitors the ecosystem closely and is up to date on it

@Shalom_HeyEliy, a Nigerian software developer based in the UK, built the Lagos Life browser game in under 12 hours. Days later, it had crossed two million players and pulled in more than $46,000 in advertising revenue. Lagos Life hit one million users faster than ChatGPT did at launch. Brands are already renting virtual billboards for as little as ₦5,000 weekly, turning street-level attention into cultural placement. In @HopeRemy's latest for @financetracked, he covers how Mathew’s weekend experiment is reshaping Nigerian-made consumer tech. #LagosLife #NigerianTech #BrowserGaming #AfricanStartups

African healthcare VC funding collapsed 78% in 2024, falling to just $43 million across 27 deals, a six-year low. Fintech, meanwhile, absorbed 59% of all venture capital deployed on the continent. Most investors walked away from health deals entirely. @NaijaFlyingDr did the opposite, keeping HealthCap Africa's early-stage checks flowing into startups across 10 African countries. In Oluwafemi Adedeji's latest for @financetracked, he covers why one Nigerian doctor-turned-investor is betting against the healthcare funding drought sweeping African venture capital. #AfricanHealthcare #VentureCapital #HealthTech #ImpactInvesting
