Hey, I am Eny. A few years ago, I was just like many people trying to figure things out online. How do I start? What skill should I learn? How do people find remote jobs? How do freelancers get clients? I've spent time learning, making mistakes, asking questions, and finding answers.

Can we talk about how some people spend years gaining work experience but have very little evidence of what they’ve actually contributed? You can hold a position for five years and still struggle to explain your achievements. Please, document your work while you’re doing it. Your memory shouldn’t be your only career record.

Remote work looks different from the outside. You see people working from their bedrooms, travelling with their laptops, choosing their schedules and avoiding daily commutes. But there’s another side to it that doesn’t always make it into the conversation. You have to manage your own time, even when nobody is checking on you. You have to communicate clearly, sometimes with people you’ve never met physically. You have to learn how to work with different time zones, personalities and expectations. You may also find yourself spending money on internet subscriptions, electricity, equipment and other things an office-based employee might not have to worry about personally. And then there’s the challenge of separating work from your personal life when your office is literally a few steps away from your bed. I’m not saying remote work isn’t worth it. It absolutely can be. But I think people should understand that remote work is not simply about finding a job that allows you to stay home. It’s also about developing the habits and professional skills that help you succeed without constant supervision. For those already working remotely, what’s one reality you wish someone had explained to you before you started?

Remote work has an interesting way of exposing your relationship with discipline. Nobody is watching you arrive at your desk. Nobody is reminding you to complete every little task. Nobody is physically checking whether you’re working. You have to learn how to manage yourself. And honestly, that’s a skill on its own.

One thing that can make your job search more effective is learning to explain your skills through examples. Don’t just say you’re organised. Explain how you manage competing deadlines. Don’t just say you’re good at communication. Show how you’ve handled a difficult conversation or coordinated a project. Specific examples make your abilities easier to understand.

Should I be honest with you? Learning a skill is only one part of becoming employable.

One funny thing about freelancing is that experience doesn’t mean you’ll never get stuck again. It just means you’ve probably developed the patience to troubleshoot the problem before announcing that you’re finished.

If you want to start freelancing, you need to understand that your income will not always be the same every month. Unlike a regular job where you receive a fixed salary at the end of the month, your earnings as a freelancer can change from month to month. You might earn a lot of money one month and much less the next month. There might also be times when work is scarce and you struggle to find projects. This is why you need to make saving money a habit as a freelancer. Make sure you have some money set aside to cover your expenses during months when you don't have any projects or when you don't earn much.

You’ve been on Upwork for months. You’ve bought Connects, sent proposals, watched tutorials, and still haven’t landed your first client. At this point, you’re wondering if Upwork is even worth it. 😭 I understand because I’ve been there. I’ve spent money on Connects, submitted countless proposals and watched clients view my applications without responding. But here’s something I eventually learnt. Sometimes, you don’t need to send more proposals. You need to change your approach. Are you applying for the right jobs? Does your profile clearly communicate what you offer? Are your proposals addressing the client’s needs, or are you just introducing yourself? These little things matter more than you think. And that’s one of the reasons I’m putting together my Upwork Masterclass. I want to help you understand how to navigate Upwork, position yourself and apply for jobs more intentionally. If you’re tired of figuring everything out through trial and error, join the waitlist. What’s your biggest struggle with Upwork right now?

If your LinkedIn photo is a blurry party picture, fix it before your next application. First impressions happen before the interview.

If you’ve been spending money on Upwork Connects but aren’t getting interviews, I want you to check a few things before buying more. Because sending more proposals won’t automatically fix a problem with your approach. First, look at the jobs you’re applying for. Are the clients looking for someone with your skills and experience? Can you actually deliver what they’re asking for? Are you applying because you’re a good fit or simply because you need work? Be honest with yourself. Next, look at your profile. If a client visits your profile after reading your proposal, will they understand what you do, who you help and why they should consider you? Or will they find a long list of skills without a clear idea of what you can actually do for them? Then, look at your proposals. Are you talking about yourself for most of the proposal, or are you addressing the client’s problem? Clients want to understand how you can help them. Your proposal should make that connection clear. Finally, pay attention to the results you’re getting. If your proposals are being viewed but you’re not getting replies, examine your targeting, proposal and profile together. If you’re barely getting views, look at the jobs you’re choosing and how well your applications match them. Don’t assume every problem has the same solution. I know this can be frustrating, especially when you’re spending money and putting in the effort without seeing results. I’ve had my own difficult seasons on Upwork, and I know how discouraging it can be to keep applying without getting anywhere. That’s part of why I want to make learning the platform more practical for people. Through my Upwork Masterclass and Upwork Clinic, I want to help people understand the platform, identify what needs improvement and approach their search more intentionally. If this is something you’re struggling with, join the waitlist for the Upwork Masterclass. chat.whatsapp.com/CZNy222i7N
And if you’re already on Upwork, tell me: What’s your biggest challenge right now?

Let’s do a quick Upwork reality check. Which of these describes your current situation? A. I haven’t created my profile yet. B. My profile is ready, but I’m not getting responses. C. Clients view my proposals but don’t reply. D. I’ve landed jobs, but I struggle with getting consistent work. Drop your letter. I want to know where people need the most help.

One thing I wish more people understood about Upwork is that creating an account is the easy part. Knowing which jobs to pursue, positioning yourself properly, writing proposals that make sense and handling clients are different things entirely. That’s the kind of practical knowledge I want to help people build in my Upwork Masterclass. Join my 2027 waitlist here: chat.whatsapp.com/CZNy222i7N
