If you want to start freelancing, you need to understand that your income will not always be the same every month. Unlike a regular job where you receive a fixed salary at the end of the month, your earnings as a freelancer can change from month to month. You might earn a lot of money one month and much less the next month. There might also be times when work is scarce and you struggle to find projects. This is why you need to make saving money a habit as a freelancer. Make sure you have some money set aside to cover your expenses during months when you don't have any projects or when you don't earn much.

If your LinkedIn photo is a blurry party picture, fix it before your next application. First impressions happen before the interview.

Freelancing will teach you patience whether you like it or not 😂 One minute you're excited because a potential client just messaged you. The next minute you're wondering if they entered another dimension because they haven't replied in three days. Please tell me I'm not alone 😭

You may not come from a privileged background, but you can build a track record that speaks for you. Your skills, achievements, and experience can open doors that connections cannot.

Here’s a simple strategy to increase your chances of getting an interview: 1. Do your research. Go back to the company’s LinkedIn page and search for the Head of Department where the role sits (e.g., Head of Sales). 2. Send a short, professional DM. • Introduce yourself • State the role you applied for • Share 1–2 strong achievements • Respectfully ask if they can recommend your application to HR Why this matters? The department head is usually the hiring manager. HR gets hundreds of resumes, but if the boss says "Hey, check out this candidate," your application gets reviewed immediately. It won't guarantee you the job, but it will guarantee you get noticed. Take the initiative on your next application

If you’re looking for remote work, don’t rely on one job board. Use company career pages, LinkedIn, reputable remote job boards, and referrals. Different companies use different channels to find people.

As a service provider, one silly voice will whisper to you to give discounts when clients ask you to quote your price... It is in your best interest that you ignore it. Quote your price with your CHEST.

If you’ve been applying for remote jobs and barely getting responses, try changing how you approach the search. You might be making one mistake without realising it. You’re treating every vacancy like an opportunity you need to apply for, instead of asking whether it’s an opportunity you can realistically compete for. Before applying, check a few things. Does your experience match the role? Can you demonstrate the skills they’re asking for? Does your CV make those skills obvious? Have you tailored your application to the position? And if you find a company you genuinely want to work for, don’t limit yourself to the vacancy alone. Research the company. Find the team. Understand what they do. Connect with relevant people professionally. You don’t need to message everybody who works there. Please, let’s not turn LinkedIn into a door-to-door sales exercise. 😂 The goal is to make informed decisions about where you apply and how you present yourself. You may not control who gets hired, but you can improve the quality of your applications. Don’t just increase the number of applications you send. Improve the way you approach them.

If you’re in your 20s and constantly feeling behind, remember this: Most people aren't ahead of you; they are just better at faking clarity. Pick one skill for the next 6 months. Give it 100%. If you hate it, you’ve learned what doesn't work and picked up discipline along the way. Inaction is the only true wasted time.

Forget imposter syndrome! There’s someone at your workplace who barely knows what they’re doing, earns more than you, and holds a more senior position. And you’re here doubting whether you’re good enough? Babe, stand up! You deserve to be in that room like mad. Have a good week, Pearls! 💝

A lot of job descriptions say “must be able to work independently.” What they often mean is: “I don’t want to explain the same thing to you five times.” Learn to ask good questions, take notes, figure things out and come back with solutions. Independence is a skill.

One of the hardest remote-work skills is knowing when to stop working. Your laptop is right there. Your Slack is right there. Your email is right there. So you keep checking. Eventually, “working from home” becomes “living at work.” Remote work needs boundaries too.

Not every hobby needs a business model. Sometimes the best thing about something you love is that you can enjoy it without worrying about monetising it. 😁
