Gorgeous Ruin It all makes a certain sort of sense, as long as cleverness doesn't get in the way. Experience, adding new layers, pushing memories into the margins as our journey takes on a deeper meaning. Yet dreary symmetry lives on unless we evict it ourselves. Sumptuousness is held in art, not in time and not in neat, obedient lines we once expected of the world. Hair, now threaded through with grey, like lightning flashing across the sky, a wild and silvery map of every storm we've learned to walk through. The storms, they don't apologize. Neither do I. Let the rain fall where it may, dance in the puddles each droplet a small, cool mercy washing the messy, gorgeous ruin we refer to as our lives. -EVW-

Gandalf is arguably the greatest character in cinematic history, and the older you get, the more you understand why. He is one of the most powerful beings in Middle-earth, yet he chooses humility over domination. He could walk among kings, but prefers the company of Hobbits. He possesses ancient wisdom, but never pretends to know everything. He inspires courage without demanding obedience. He confronts unimaginable evil, not because he believes himself invincible, but because someone has to stand against it. He understands that the fate of the world is not determined solely by armies, kings or great powers, but by the seemingly insignificant acts of ordinary people. He sees greatness in those who cannot see it in themselves. He falls into the abyss fighting a demon from the ancient world, sacrificing himself so that his friends might live. And when he returns, more powerful than ever, he remains fundamentally unchanged in character. No arrogance. No hunger for power. No desire to rule. Just wisdom, compassion, humour, courage and an unwavering commitment to what is good. And perhaps his greatest lesson is that evil is not ultimately defeated by becoming more powerful than it, but by refusing to become like it. Gandalf isn’t simply a great fictional character. He’s a representation of everything humanity should aspire to become.

Few poems describe a gentleman's character better than Kipling's "If—," and few men read it better than Sir Michael Caine. Have a great Friday.

Here we go.
MERGER UPDATE 🚨 The race against the clock is officially on 🔥 People familiar with the matter say that the special committees from Tesla and SpaceX are pushing to announce a deal in the first half of 2027, aiming to close the transaction before the current Trump administration's term ends 🔥 The combination would unite two companies with a joint market value of roughly $3.7 trillion, cementing Elon Musk's corporate grip before the political and financial climate turns less favorable. With the midterm elections less than two weeks away, a Democratic takeover of either chamber of Congress could expose Elon and his businesses to congressional scrutiny while weakening the leverage of an administration heading into lame-duck territory. Meanwhile, a relentless selloff in chipmakers and AI stocks threatens to erode the investor backing needed to pull off such an ambitious deal. 'Musk and his advisers undoubtedly want to capitalize on this window,' said Bill Birmingham, head of research at REX Financial. 'The timing is both favorable and critical.' Neither SpaceX nor Tesla responded to requests for comment regarding the proposed timeline.

Tesla reported Q3 2026 results today (October 21, 2026). Key financial results •Revenue: $28.05 billion (essentially flat year-over-year; roughly in line with consensus around $28.06B). •Non-GAAP EPS: $0.48 (beat consensus of ~$0.45; down from $0.50 a year ago). •GAAP net income: $787 million ($0.22 diluted EPS), down ~43% year-over-year. •GAAP operating income: $718 million (operating margin 2.6%). •Gross margin: 19.6% total (up from 18.0% a year ago and 16.8% in Q2). Automotive gross margin excluding regulatory credits was ~18.1%. •Adjusted EBITDA: ~$3.9 billion. •Free cash flow: $1.53 billion (positive after a negative Q2). •Capex: $4.73 billion. •Cash & investments: ~$45.4–45.5 billion (up ~9% year-over-year). Regulatory credits were low at $113 million. Energy storage revenue declined even as deployments rose, while services and other revenue grew strongly. Operating expenses rose (driven by R&D on AI/Super Intelligence, Optimus, and Cybercab, plus higher stock-based compensation). Operational context (previously reported) •Vehicle deliveries: 486,532 (down ~2% YoY but ahead of consensus ~462k). Production was lower at 464,391. •Energy storage deployments: 13.7 GWh (up from 12.5 GWh a year earlier). •Active FSD subscriptions: 1.74 million (+67% YoY). FSD Supervised attach rate exceeded 75% of new North American deliveries. Other notes from the shareholder update: Tesla cited battery supply as a limiter on vehicle volumes and ended the quarter with its largest passenger-vehicle backlog in four years. Cybercab entered the Austin Robotaxi fleet; cumulative unsupervised Robotaxi miles grew sharply. Tesla Semi entered volume production, and there were highlights around FSD expansion in Europe and energy/storage progress. Official materials (including the Q3 2026 Update deck) are on Tesla’s investor relations site. The earnings call was scheduled for 5:30 p.m. ET. Figures are from the company update and contemporaneous reporting; final SEC filings will confirm the numbers.
