Excited to share a preprint from my group at NMU and Upper Michigan Brain Tumor Center! We developed a fluorescent biosensor that can detect the oncometabolite D-2-HG in glioma tumor lysates & interrogate subcellular D-2-HG in the mitochondria & nucleus.

Do not miss the next Science on Tap at Blackrocks Brewery in November! Come to listen to Dr Evan Pratt talking of "A Light in Dark Places". When? Tuesday November 12th, 7pm. Sponsored by Biology & EEGs Deps @NorthernMichU @BlackrocksBrew
Biochemistry and forensic biochem students purifying fluorescent proteins in my biochemical techniques course tonight. Next step is to characterize the photophysical properties and identify their "mystery" FP over the next three weeks.
Dr. Hu was one of my biggest mentors in graduate school. He will be greatly missed. Please consider donating to the Chang-Deng Hu Endowment for Graduate Student Fellowship established in his memory, if you are able.

Pleased to report our latest review on "Tools and techniques for illuminating zinc biology" is now out (sciencedirect.com/science/ar… ). Great work by @evanpspratt , @LeahJDamon and @kelsie_anson .
Beyond excited to join the Department of Chemistry at Northern Michigan University @MedPlantChem as an Assistant Professor of Biochemistry this fall! Thanks to my PhD mentor @HockermanLab and postdoc mentor @AmyPalmerLab for your support!
Another socially distanced goodbye for the Palmer Lab. This time for Dr Evan Pratt (@evanpspratt ). Best wishes as you start your faculty position at University of Northern Michigan! We will miss you!

We are very excited for our newest work in @NatureComms. Former postdoc & current @UICscience Prof Gary Mo rationally designed a new red FP for multiplexed FRET imaging of Src+Akt+Erk activities! Great collaboration with @erin_rod_phd! nature.com/articles/s41467-0…

I’m very excited to share some good news in these uncertain times. I’m joining the @GUChemistry department as Assistant Professor this fall! I can’t wait for life to go back to normal and to work on exciting RNA imaging projects in bacterial infection!
Wonderful presentation on genetically-encoded zinc and pH sensors by my undergrad researcher Justin!
Way to go Justin. Poised and prepared. Thanks to @CUBIOCHEM1 for organizing this undergraduate research symposium.

Dr. Yuchen Wang (PhD 2015-Hockerman Lab) received NIH K99/R00 Pathway to Independence Award. He’s currently at the Scripps Research Institute, in the lab or Dr. Kirill Martemyanov. This award covers the transition from postdoc to first faculty position. Congratulations Yuchen!

Visited the beautiful campus @ColoradoCollege last Thursday and spoke to a group of students about post-translational modifications and protein localization. Thanks to Dr. Jenn Garcia for having me. Had to see @gogcolorado while in Colorado Springs, too.

The Palmer Lab is on twitter now! Here to fill your feed with live-cell microscopy. What we're currently reading - science.sciencemag.org/conte…
Check out the latest paper from my PhD work in the Hockerman lab @Purdue_MCMP, published in @PLOSONE. We used a FRET-based biosensor to measure the effect of several PDE inhibitors on cAMP levels in primary human pancreatic beta-cells.
