HR: Your current CTC is 12 LPA. Best we can offer is 16.
DevOps Engineer: But in my current project, I reduced deployment time by 80% with CI/CD, handled production outages, and ensured uptime that drove ₹2 Cr revenue in just 60 days.
HR: 16 is our max.
DevOps Engineer: Then I’m not the right fit.
2 hours later…
HR: We can do 20 LPA + joining bonus + relocation.
The first number is never the real number.
It’s a filter.
Most engineers negotiate based on salary.
Smart engineers negotiate based on value delivered.
Know your worth. Or someone else will decide it for you.
