My cat is named Cassavetes so I uh… can’t relate lol
OK, I'll bite. If John Cassavetes is so insanely influential and brilliant, why have I not heard about him until recently?
I've been on a side-quest with classic and esoteric movies, mostly through the Criterion collection. I've watched dozens of Criterion closet picks from filmmakers and actors I admire.
They pick Cassavetes films ALL THE TIME. Probably more than any other director except Scorsese. I haven't seen a single Cassavetes film. I don't think I've ever heard anyone talk about a Cassavetes film outside of those videos.
I'm not a slouch on film, I've got a pretty wide spread on what I've seen & what I appreciate. How has Cassavetes slipped through that net so completely for so long?

Luring people into those theatre seats with his pussy. The original formula. We are so so back.
I saw this in theaters when I went to see Top Gun for the 40th Anniversary.
Rad as hell
We talking about Refn again?
What people don’t seem to get is that he’s firmly a VIBES director which makes all of his work at least somewhat engaging
Let women be bad at things too. This can be a bad movie. It’s ok

TCM is showing Ninotchka (1939) tonight so if you hear cheers and chants it is likely your neighbors are watching the Superbowl but there is also a chance that you live in a community of big Greta Garbo fans.

No one should be pledging allegiance to Travis’ hands with the amount of drops he’s had this season
What world is this that my 13 year old has seen the new PTA before me and just told me that HE honestly thought it was a 10/10 😂🥲

Robert Redford playing a gentle incarnation of death, coming for a frightened old woman in The Twilight Zone episode "Nothing in the Dark" (1962). An extraordinary performance then, terribly bittersweet today.

Unfortunately no one will ever look cooler than Robert Redford playing ping-pong with Paul Newman
