A new @UN report found that toxic “forever chemicals” called PFAS pose a profound threat to human rights and the environment. Actor and activist @MarkRuffalo and environmental attorney @RobertBilott have joined the call to ban all non-essential uses of PFAS to protect our planet and our health.

This isn’t a new fact. It’s a buried one. Plastic has often been understood as a problem that only exists in the oceans and harming wildlife. But plastic creates pollution throughout its existence: from the extraction of fossil fuels, the manufacture of plastic, its use, and “disposal.”
🍃🔄 Plastic is not something the Earth absorbs without consequence. To stop plastic pollution, our reliance has to shift to regenerative materials and reusable systems.

Microplastics are impacting our bodies, but do you know exactly how that’s happening?
Microplastics enter our bodies primarily in two ways, through breathing them in or from swallowing them.
Once inside our bodies, microplastics have two types of impact: physical and chemical.
There are individual actions we can take to reduce our exposure to microplastics, but ultimately we need systemic change by adopting new laws to protect our health. .
We need our lawmakers to adopt new laws that require:
✅ Reducing plastic production
✅ Reducing toxic chemicals used to make plastic
✅ Funding waste reduction and reuse programs

🧬 When plastic is created, chemicals are added like bisphenols and phthalates for functionality, but they come with a threat.
🚨 Research suggests that microplastics in the placenta may act as endocrine disruptors, affecting the hormone levels of a developing fetus in the placenta.
🤰 Pregnancy is already a period of increased vulnerability to environmental pollutants for both mother and fetus.
🙅♀️ Avoiding plastic whenever possible during pregnancy can help reduce exposure, and our Healthy Pregnancy Guide can help—but we also need systemic change to solve this crisis.
