The governor of New Jersey is preparing to spend ten billion dollars right now to ease congestion on the approach to the no-longer-congested congestion zone. Maybe instead of suing New York he should save $9,999,999,900 and just send us a Harry & David gift basket.
Replying to @sam_d_1995
but seriously, you’d see state DOTs spend tens of billions of dollars on pointless highway widenings just to try and get to a fraction of this level of traffic reduction. and unlike expensive highway widenings, congestion pricing *makes* money

I rarely saw red-light running in NYC before 2020, especially dangerous red-light running. (And those who know me know I am observing driver behavior a LOT.) For all the chaos on NYC streets, there was a broadly observed norm. The norm is gone. I see it literally every day now.

Oh I don't know. It's very talky & you'll hate the characters. Nothing happens.

Lots of similarities between this shooter, the times sq shooter, and the sunset park subway mass shooter in that they all opened fire in public within 100 feet of NYPD then managed to escape and evade NYPD for over 24 hours even with photos of their faces plastered on the news

The 35-year-old NYPD detective who took my report this month makes $170,000 (3x median income for the 5 boroughs) *before* benefits, which include a better health plan than I can get, and a pension, something most private sector employees haven’t been offered in decades
We need to stop grouping cops and firefighters into the definition of ‘struggling middle class’ when they make $200k a year and have pretty much free health insurance for them and their entire families and a bunch of other perks

When I was 16 I described myself as a 'normal' gay. I made a big deal out of it. I wanted everyone to know I was gay but not gaaaaaaaay. You know why? Because I was a child, insecure and naive and a bit thick! Seeing gays in their 40s doing this? The cringe goes so deep...

Not too sure that Republicans going from calling Puerto Ricans garbage to calling a woman garbage is the whiz-bang political chess move they think it is

Normally we’d follow the thriller dance flash mob to Washington sq park and hang out - but for the first year in my lifetime, @NYCMayor Eric Adams had NYPD posted up to barricade the park, wasting our tax dollars on his continued war against everything that makes this city great.

Well, in your singular case, color me less than assured, what with all that Mississippi welfare money for which you had your hand out.

This is actually a great metaphor for NYPD’s workforce. The majority of them don’t live here. They drive into our city, trash it, deprive us of tax funded services that other agencies try to deliver, then leave to go back home so others can clean up the mess.
Special thanks to the workers in the Department of Sanitation for cleaning up all of the trash that was left behind during the Trump rally at @TheGarden.

Every single @NYCCouncil member who voted for this, including @NYCSpeakerAdams who brought it to a vote, enabled that Nazi rally last night
Millions in Tax Breaks for MSG. Passed by a City Council vote of 48:0 on 9/14/2023. Every council member supported MSG financially with that vote.

This slipped by everyone's radar, but the MTA reported 4,335,920 paying subway riders on Wednesday, September 25, 2024. That's a new post-March 13, 2020 ridership high and 75% of the pre-COVID peak.

I’m paying $16 to take an MTA train to Mamaroneck, a near-NYC suburb, right now. One way, peak. Remind me again why @GovKathyHochul says it’s just too much to charge $15 for peak congestion pricing to drive a car into midtown Manhattan?

As has long been said, the predicate for fascism is for a third of society to watch while another third is brutalized and the last third yawns and lets it happen. Donald Trump is both mentally unstable and a fascist looking for his moment. And a third of this country is proving itself just as nuts and just as vicious.
Trump says his idea for stopping crime is to allow for “one really violent day”: “One rough hour, and I mean real rough...”
