Finishing an assignment to start a new one is always a time of mixed feelings. Big sadness to leave my great @FAOinUAE colleagues but also excitement to join a new family in @FAOPhilippines. Thank you to my dear colleagues for the beautiful farewell party today 🥰

Very true @fish2da . I just had indepth conversation with women “wasomba ngese”. They carry dagaa from the boats to the drying area; do sorting 2 separate dagaa frm other spp and waste. There is still a lot that should be brought to surface 2 be addressed in support of the women
Women in #SSF have to overcome many barriers to make ends meet, but still have to deal with #PostHarvestLosses we can help overcome! Let's support the #WomenofLakeMalawi @piaulia, @FAOMalawi, @SSF_Nicole, @EMEDO19

Those porters work hard & painfully to serve fishers. They have no safety net, yet they must support their families. How could we develop a strategy without them?
Another often forgotten actor is the auctioner, which role goes far beyond auctions as they also finance fishers.

The fisheries sector has proven resilient. Yet the fish production decreased from 195 370 tonnes in 2014 to 83 865 t in 2019, while the exports shrank from 97 685 t to 31 988 t.
On the local markets, price has become prohibitive for many consumers.

Some argue that there is overfishing, others that there isn't, but actually, nobody knows.
The #1 priority is to know the status of fish stocks, to make sure they are sustainable.
@FAOYemen will train people and collect data so that we have solid basis for managing fisheries.
