He Bought a College to Fix Higher Ed 👇
He wanted great professors to earn more. He ended up buying a college. @Campusgrad Founder & Chancellor @tadeoyerinde couldn’t believe how little some faculty at UCLA, Princeton and NYU were earning. His idea for additional paid teaching opportunities grew into a bigger vision: help more community college students graduate With guidance from an experienced adviser, he pursued an existing college whose mission fit - and recruited former community college presidents to help govern it. Earning accreditors’ trust and putting that foundation together were part of a years-long process. Founders: stay ambitious about the mission and practical about the path @tadeoyerinde Founder & Chancellor @Campusgrad on @fondocom START Full ep: youtu.be/3i8FawClY1s?si

I asked @orenzeev what his calendar looks like: "Many VCs, once you start measuring it, optimize for whatever you measure. You want to show LPs broad deal flow. We saw 8,000 deals this year. And you did one of them. I try to see as few as possible. Let me check my week. Monday, 7:30 yoga, 9am a board meeting. That's it. Tuesday, a couple calls and a board, and in between I went to the ocean and surfed. So my days are really empty. Which is exactly what lets me be responsive. Every day five or six founders message me, and I reply within minutes, sometimes seconds. People say it sounds like I'm not doing any real work. They're right. Two meetings a day, of course it's not work. It's a hobby. Work is something you do because you have to provide for your family. I don't have to do it. So of course it's not work. It's just what I love to do."
New @ThePeelPod with @orenzeev He manages $2.7B across 11 funds with no team. He has no meetings, doesn't write investment memos, and has never shown an LP a single slide from a deck. We get in to the 30-minute conversation that turned into his first fund, why most partners add negative value, the days his calendar is empty enough to surf on a Tuesday, his fund that had only five companies (and why diversification is a lie), how Navan went from a $90M run rate to zero in a month (and survived), why he does cross-fund investing, refusing DPI when LP's want it, and the 30-year history of Israel's startup economy. Build for your own problem first. When people ask about it, that’s your signal.
The gear was ready. The room wasn’t. Zach and a friend were recording an album. They needed less echo and a cleaner sound. So they built a small booth. Later a friend asked what happened to it. Zach pulled the parts back out. “I think I can make this into a product” He did. That idea became "@RollingStone's #1 Recommended portable recording booth...": @SnapStudioCo Zach Nieman, CEO & Founder @SnapStudioCo on @fondocom START Full ep here: fondo.ai/3SWEDnI
