We have the right to a public broadcaster. Those laughing at the demise of BBC Scotland are missing the point. This is a managed decline, a lasting, long-term damage to our cultural infrastructure. bellacaledonia.org.uk/2026/1…

What a disgraceful abdication of duty to the public service in Scotland from the so-called national broadcaster. Even worse, it’s no surprise - at every turn, the channel was designed to be unpopular. Imagine there had actually been a vision?

John Swinney’s speech today was a full circle moment for the membership who pleaded with him to lead when the party needed him most. Now, after delivering a historic Holyrood win, he has set out his ambition for an independent Scotland - and his very personal motivation for it.

Sad to hear of Lena Martell’s passing yesterday, at the ripe age of 86. Her story is incredible and it was a joy to see her live at the @GlasgowPavilion (and to meet her, as you can see!)
Six years ago, I met Lena Martell after her last ever concert at @GlasgowPavilion. An unsung legend of Scotland's music scene, she even deputised for Barbara Streisand in Funny Girl on Broadway. I last spoke to her before lockdown, still taking things One Day At A Time 🎶

Really proud to be supporting the launch of @MovemberUK’s Real Face of Men’s Health: Scotland report this week.
More than 35 men in Scotland die too young. Every single day. Our new Scotland report lays out why, and what needs to happen next. Swipe through. Scotland has the lowest male life expectancy in the UK. Men are 1.5x more likely to die before 75. And where a man lives can nearly quadruple his risk. There's a Women's Health Plan. There's nothing similar for men. We're asking the Scottish Government for a fully costed Men's Health Action Plan. Read the full report: movember.com/news/time-for-a… Then send this to someone who should see it.

'It's for the people of Scotland to determine their future and I wish them the best in that.' @PresidentIRL Catherine Connolly tells @KieranPAndrews she and @JohnSwinney discussed 'self-determination and why that was so important' at the pair's meeting at Bute House.

Awful news for cultural journalism in Scotland, which is already in a sorry state.
After 20 years of independent cultural journalism and with a very heavy heart, September’s edition of The Skinny is our final issue 💔 Read our full statement on our website: theskinny.co.uk/music/news/t…

What an incredible service to journalism Elizabeth has given over all these years. Wishing her and all the family the very best on what will undoubtedly have been a very tough decision.

I appreciate that Dolly Parton played no part in "dress respectability" and, by her own account, modeled her aesthetic after a town "tramp," who she thought was beautiful. She separated aesthetics from character and understood "classiness" to be about how you treat people.
