Don't be gaslit on the Serbian elections.
Student List has won on an anti-corruption and free speech platform.
It is definitely not pro-NATO or anti-Russian.
It is mildly pro-EU, but so was the previous largest party.
The main explicitly pro-EU party got zero seats.

Hansen tells us that today's ~4 watts/m² of human GHG forcing causes 10C of global warming after all feedbacks have operated.
He also tells us that GHG forcing is increasing at a rate of around 0.5 watts/m² per decade.
This means around 1.2C is being added to the planet's eventual temperature every decade.

The entire Financial Times editorial board has published a piece urging Lula to cut government spending and appoint a finance minister who enjoys the confidence of investors.
I get the impression that the FT editorial board has never opened an economics book other than some outdated introductory macroeconomics textbook, perhaps something by Mankiw. Otherwise, it's hard to explain such astonishing arrogance and economic ignorance.
Lula and the Brazilian people have absolutely no reason to bow to the demands of financial markets. Brazil is Latin America's largest economy, a major regional power, and a country with a high degree of monetary sovereignty. Around 97% of the central government's debt is denominated in its own currency, the Brazilian real.
The relationship between the state and financial markets is therefore nothing like the FT portrays it. Brazil is not dependent on financial markets. On the contrary, financial markets depend on government spending, which creates financial assets for the private sector, while government debt denominated in the national currency is one of the instruments through which those assets are held.
What Brazil needs is not capitulation to financial markets, but an independent economic policy focused on expanding production, creating jobs, and improving people's living standards.
Armed with the insights of heterodox economic theory, Brazil has the potential to show the world what a genuine economic miracle looks like. ft.com/content/79785581-88c2…

Yesterday, I was barred from entering the West Bank by Israeli officials, as part of a @ProgIntl delegation.
What's happening here in Palestine is unjust. We've just witnessed what Amnesty International, Human Rights Watch and many others have called a genocide unfold in Gaza.
We came here to show the world, and to show solidarity with the Palestinian people. The Israeli government didn't allow that.

THE NEOLIBERAL MASTERPLAN
This is the inevitable outcome of the Reagan–Thatcher experiment:
1️⃣ Privatize anything the state owns that can make money.
2️⃣ Let shareholders extract the profits and park them in tax havens.
3️⃣ Leave the state with everything that loses money — healthcare, infrastructure, public services, you name it.
Then act shocked when tax revenues can’t cover the bill.
Privatize the profits. Socialize the costs.
And when the system inevitably breaks, blame the government for being too big and “inefficient.”
What a brilliant fucking business model.

Greens you are being gifted by the Labour Party in Birmingham.
Cut all ties with Labour, and start fighting with local trade unions against austerity measures b4ought in by Labour and Tories (including the massive pay cuts forced on the bin men).

No moral lectures from genocide profiteers.
The Labour Party have directly assisted the genocide in Gaza and continue to do so under @andyburnham and @Ed_Miliband
We won’t take moral lectures from war criminals.

I’d urge Greens not to be intimidated by people trading on their credentials as “economists”. Listen to the argument. If it sounds like neoliberalism dressed up in radical language, trust your gut. People often flaunt their degrees when their arguments can’t speak for themselves.
Literally waited until Trump lost interest in doing a coup.
Congratulations to President @LulaOficial on your re-election - a true victory for democracy and progressive values.
I look forward continuing to work together as we create opportunities for people in the UK and Brazil.

I'm afraid my children won't be able to go to school next month because I won't be able to pay their school fees this month. 💔 I hope you can help them continue their education and have a better future than ours.

50 years of privatisation =
a FAR BIGGER STATE
with WAY MORE BUREAUCRACY
bc privatisation introduces competition and therefore commercial secrecy and legal disputes
+ more state admin is needed to try to coordinate fragmented state contracts handed to the private sector
