Secularism promised progress but here we are having to go all the way to the Supreme Court to argue that being a women isn't merely a feeling, nor should we allow the amputation & mutilation of physically healthy children by anyone.
On Wednesday, a massively important case is going before the Supreme Court to decide whether states can protect children from gender ideology. Top-flight lawyer Erin Hawley explains the stakes at @WNGdotorg.

this is my shocked face
BREAKING: NYT reports that operatives with Democratic Alaska U.S. Senate candidate Mary Peltolaβs campaign were behind the effort to find & recruit a candidate named Dan Sullivan to run against incumbent GOP Senator Dan S. Sullivan in an effort to confuse voters and peel votes from him.
Specifically, NYT says they have reviewed text messages and documents that reveal in summer 2025, a Peltola staffer received instructions from campaign staffers to find as many people named Dan Sullivan in Alaska as possible.
The staffer complied, going through voter records, and compiled a list. The operation βinvolved secret trips to far-flung Alaskan communities and the appearance of a mysterious Midwestern operative, who traversed the state using a fake name and made his pitch to would-be candidates over beers at brew pubs.β
Per NYT:
βThe plan worked. This spring, a retired teacher from a tiny fishing village along the Alaska Panhandle, reachable only by air and sea, announced his candidacy for Senate. His name was Dan J. Sullivan.β

LOTR is arguably the single greatest example of moral realism in all of literature.
Injecting moral relativism into Middle Earth fundamentally misunderstands Tolkien and flies in the face of everything he stood for.
And don't come at me with 'moral complexity.'
Relativism isn't complexity. It's confusion. It's a collapse of distinctions that has nothing to offer but meaninglessness and despair.
In order to have meaningful 'moral complexity,' you have to establish a distiction between light and dark, right and wrong, good and evil. The complexity arises among characters that must navigate a world where both forces act around, upon, and within them.
What modern Hollywood calls 'moral complexity' is actually just the erasing the distinction between good and evil.
If a story can't show you light and dark, it can't say anything meaningful about them. Classic storytellers understood this. Modern Hollywood has completely memory holed it.

I used to review officer-involved shooting reports generated by a D.A. explaining the decision to exonerate officers, and recall often thinking βI mean, could that *really* be how it went down?β I suspected there may be some fog of war or selective memory or post-hoc justification to give the officer a rational justification and paint the victim in a negative, irrational light.
But with the post-2020 adoption of body cams, I now believe it all. There is no behavior too insane for a huge number of suspects when confronted with literally any command by an officer requesting some form of compliance.
Even I thought body cams would shine a light on some substantial percentage of clear officer abuse, but itβs clearly negligible, while dangerous and erratic behavior by suspects is widespread. It is impossible to overstate how wrong BLM and reform activists were on this count.

"And thus did Melkor breed the hideous race of the Orcs in envy and mockery of the Elves, of whom they were afterwards the bitterest foes." -The Silmarillion, Chapter III (Of the coming of the Elves and the captivity of Melkor)
"With them they brought Gelmir son of Guilin, that lord of Nargothrond whom they had captured in the Bragollach; and they had blinded him. Then the heralds of Angband showed him forth crying: 'We have many more such at home, but you must make haste if you would find them; for we shall deal with them all when we return even so.' And they hewed off Gelmir's hands and feet, and his head last, within sight of the Elves, and left him." - Of the Fifth Battle
"For the Men of Brethil had waylaid at the Crossing of Teiglin the Orc-host that led the captives of Nargothrond, hoping to rescue them; but the orcs had at once cruelly slain their prisoners, and Finduilas (Orodreth's daughter) they pinned to a tree with a spear." - Of Turin Turambar
"But at last Haldad was slain in a sortie against the orcs; and Haldar, who rushed out to save his father's body from their butchery, was hewn down beside him." - Of the coming of Men into the West
The orcs are, in fact, rampaging monsters, and this attempt at subversion of the canon by the showrunners is particularly grotesque.
Just when I thought this show couldnβt sink any lower or misunderstand the source material further.

With all due respect, βpersonhoodβ is not a magical trump card that overrides the basic principles of the republican form of government. One cannot conclude from the bare fact of personhood that anyone and everyone has a right to be counted in the census, to vote, or to stand for office.
U.S. bishops are opposing proposed Census Bureau rule changes for the 2030 census, arguing that excluding noncitizens without lawful permanent resident status from the apportionment count would effectively deny them recognition as persons.

I think Singal is representative of a lot of liberals in that he sort of concedes the necessity of immigration law in the abstract, but finds the actual act of deportation to be shocking and cruel unless it occurs under impossible to satisfy circumstances.
Immigration advocates make these circumstances impossible, in the same way advocates have made a clean death penalty impossible so what remains to be incompetently administered provokes public sympathy.
Replying to @MrAndyNgo
so your understanding of how this works is if the government thinks you defrauded the US and you don't have legal status here, you should be deported to a country you have no connection to and just dropped there with no money?

Again, legacy media might say that non-citizen voting is extremely rare, and it might be! But the largest state in the country is happily admitting that they have absolutely no way of knowing how widespread it is, and frankly, they don't care even a little
Stunning admission by California during yesterdayβs Ninth Circuit hearing.
California admitted they do nothing to check the citizenship status of voters and will count the illegal ballots of noncitizens who vote. This is why weβre seeking an emergency order. We cannot allow California to dilute legal votes in the upcoming election.
Judge: You agree that if a non-citizen votes and we donβt stop it now, that vote will be counted, correct?
California: Thatβs absolutely correct.

Hundreds - that's right, HUNDREDS - of armed robberies between 2022 and 2024 weren't real.
They were staged by the "victims" as part of a massive immigration fraud scheme to secure U-visas for themselves and their families.

Quantifying the Future
This is what a $2 trillion economy will look like by 2040β¦
+ 1x port facility with 3x8km lay down area
+ 1x robot fab plant producing 100 bots / hr
+ 1x 1GW datacenter running inference
+ 1x 3GW nuclear power station
= 2 million robots labouring 24/7
We know enough today to model the thermodynamics and the market economics of such a site already. The numbers above are the ballpark numbers you end up with, feel free to challenge or change for your own assumptions.
Embodiment is the ceiling for both the thermodynamics and economics, as compute (and intelligence) pretty much trends towards zero under Mooreβs Law.
Assuming a robot is 500W of Newtonian motion, as humanoids are, then 2,000,000 robots working 24/7 is 1GW of demand for the robotsβ actuators.
Letβs also assume a 1GW datacenter is required for inference for 2m robots, supervised by a central monolithic superintelligence. Thatβs 2GW total.
Then for the sack of maintenance and replacement, we assume 500MW robot fab can produce 100 robots an hour (only ~ 5 ton of product / hr, below a car plant, but includes chips). Thatβs now 2.5GW site total.
For 2,000,000 robots to create $2T of value, each bot needs to add $1m of value each year
Seems a lot, but each robot is assumed to work 24/7 and only last ~2 years before it is defunct.
24x365 =8,760 hrs/yr
=>$114/hr
Seems high at first, but this is a hyper collaborative hive mind marshalled by 2040 superintelligence. $114/hr is what you pay for a car mechanic in 2026, and we are using 2026 dollars here.
We can even look at the thermo and economic density and the total footprint of this economy is just tiny.
3x8km is 24km^2 (about 6,000 acres).
= 83,000 robots / km^2 = 12m^2 per robot
Thermal dissipation
= 500W / 12m^2
= 41.7W/m^2 (just 2-3% of solar insolence)
Value add density
=$1m / 12m^2
=$83k / m^2 <- Wow!!
This is $2T GDP from just 8km of coastline
Or $500bn of GDP per km of dockside
The entire economy can be compressed into the 3km deep dockyard behind the dockside.
Thatβs an economy the size of Australia or Mexico in a land area the size of San Francisco Airport.
This is absolutely where the future economy is going, nothing can compete with the capital efficiency of this setup. Nothing.
Docks are also crucial as itβs simply not possible to handle the prerequisite volume of cargo and goods for such an economy using anything other than isomodal freight handling systems.
If your nation state is interested in adding $2 trillion to its tax base⦠my DMs are open.
