I'm with Eco on buying and reading books, which are companionably shelved and stacked all around me right now.
Umberto Eco, who owned 50,000 books, had this to say about home libraries: "It is foolish to think that you have to read all the books you buy, as it is foolish to criticize those who buy more books than they will ever be able to read. It would be like saying that you should use all the cutlery or glasses or screwdrivers or drill bits you bought before buying new ones. There are things in life that we need to always have plenty of supplies, even if we will only use a small portion. If, for example, we consider books as medicine, we understand that it is good to have many at home rather than a few: when you want to feel better, then you go to the 'medicine closet' and choose a book. Not a random one, but the right book for that moment. That's why you should always have a nutrition choice! Those who buy only one book, read only that one and then get rid of it. They simply apply the consumer mentality to books, that is, they consider them a consumer product, a good. Those who love books know that a book is anything but a commodity." @Pergament_F @normaegraham1 @fugitiveink @AliceB01973554 @robert_lyman @prof_warfield @GilesMacDonogh @GilesMilton1 @guywalters @ABRGLL @April_1970s @LL_running_girl

It's #Halloween and every year we like to carve a #Pumpkin from our collection of @PenguinBooks. ๐ŸŽƒ We're up to our elbows here in juicy plots and seedy characters. Luckily there's not much pulp fiction. ๐ŸŽƒ

National Chocolate Day! ๐Ÿ˜‹ Yorkshire has a long history of chocolatiers. ๐Ÿซ York earned the nickname "The Chocolate City" in the 19th century, built by Quaker families who favoured the cocoa trade as an alternative to the drink trade. Rowntree's gave the world Kit Kat, Smarties and Aero. Terry's created the Chocolate Orange and it all traces back to a grocer's shop run by Mary Tuke, later taken over by fellow Quaker Henry Isaac Rowntree in 1862. Some of Britain's most iconic chocolate was dreamed up right here in Yorkshire. โ€“ at Yorkshire and The Humber, England

611 years ago today, St Crispin's Day 1415, Henry V's outnumbered English army won at Agincourt. Shakespeare gave him the line every soldier since has borrowed: "We few, we happy few, we band of brothers." Our people carried that inheritance across the Atlantic.

Remembering the anniversary of the Battle of Agincourt today.
There are three intertwined anniversaries today that all share some common themes - brotherhood in combat, reckless courage, fights against impossible odds, and a poetic remembrance the transcends the brutal realities of the events themselves.

Finishing touches ahead of this eveningโ€™s State Banquetโ€ฆ โœจ ย  Tonight, The King and Queen will host a State Banquet for the Sultan of Oman at Windsor Castle. ย  โ˜•๏ธ Inspired by the Omani ritual of Kahwa, a collection of special teas will be served. ย  While Kahwa is traditionally a spiced coffee, the concept has been adapted to draw on the long-standing British love of tea while preserving the aromatic spices and flavours that make Kahwa so distinctive: fragrant cardamom, delicate rose, sweet dates, and gentle warming spices. ย  Guests will be invited to choose from an Iced Earl Grey & Date, an Iced Mint & Rose, or a Warm Cardamom-Spiced Blend sweetened with Windsor Honey. ย  Together, they reflect the warmth and hospitality shared by both Omani and British traditions. ๐Ÿ‡ฌ๐Ÿ‡ง๐Ÿ‡ด๐Ÿ‡ฒ
