most of the people who called covid early weren't prescient so much as neurotic.

I swear one way that oxbridge was great for marriage is the regular formal dinners where you dress up because, like, people look good done up in formalwear and young people basically don't do it unless they are forced to anyway I am thinking about this because of this chinese tiktok account of the guy whose schtick is offering two single strangers money to go do a wedding style photo shoot together and it's ludicrously effective for getting them to like each other and agree to date afterwards and the girls are always like "wow you're pretty good looking huh" because yeahhh it turns out if you get done up and look good and go have fun together you get attracted to each other...

I was hesitant to add synthetic grain to Camera Nocta, but using ProRaw images (at 2x zoom) adds some unfortunate skin smoothing and a little grain is the perfect thing to even it out again so I'm adding it. It will be adjustable in develop mode.

Something poetic about AIs earlier wave being kicked off with "Hogwarts Balenciaga" and now running through "Malfoid".

This is what its like raising a toddler in Brooklyn. The grocery store is a 1 minute walk. We go every day, and usually multiple times a day just for fun. They have those kid grocery carts and my daughter loves to push them. The cashiers all know her and interact directly with her, leaning way over the counter so she can hand them items directly. Tonight she asked to stop by the grocery store on the way home and bought herself an orange.
Our closest park is a 9 min walk, and there are two other excellent parks within a 20 minute walk. We go to all three parks regularly.
Her school is a 22 min walk, her doctor is an 8 min walk. We also live walking distance from a number of friends. I tend to stay in my neighborhood most days. Not only do we rarely take a car, I actually only take the subway or bus a few times a week.
Last week, friends with young kids came to visit us from the suburbs in California.
As we ran around Manhattan together, they looked at us and asked, βHow do you do this all the time? How do you raise young kids in New York City? Do you have to get in the car every time you go somewhere? This seems crazy.β
I smiled and told them that, for us, raising kids in the city is actually easier than raising them in the suburbs.
We never think about getting in the car.
The grocery store is two blocks away. The kidsβ doctor is two blocks away. Thereβs a Barnes & Noble six minutes away on foot.
We walk to the Met, the Natural History Museum, and Central Park.
We walk to get coffee. There are playgrounds and playdates everywhere. Our building is full of kids their age, and so is our block.
Once you get past the idea that raising kids in the city must be complicated, the day-to-day reality is pretty simple.
We just walk out the door.
And honestly, raising kids in the city is actually a whole lot easier than raising them in the suburbs.
i asked my claude what the dumbest thing ive said was and after a bunch of prodding it started roasting me for OCD

it is fine if people / acquaintances donβt understand that what I do - raising and educating children, taking care of household affairs - is work
it is rather tough when folks both donβt understand this and complain about how it is hard to schedule time with me
half-watching the mitford wives series on hbo. im p sure one of them became a nazi at some point and im starting to think it's the platinum blonde with the goth eyeshadow and what looks like pretty good work done??
wait apparently jessica "decca" mitford went commie

wait unity shot herself in the head (and survived, more or less) after threatening to if britain and germany went to war
godammit my replies (which means threads) are rate-limited again
apparently it was TWO mitford sisters! unity was part of hitler's inner circle and diana (this blonde one) had her wedding at goebble's home w hitler as a guest! wild stuff!
