I'm not a dev, but we should all know this: 17 years of Android openness are at risk. Google's plan to block unverified apps is a direct hit on F-Droid and independent software. Stop the lockdown: keepandroidopen.org @AlteredDeal #KeepAndroidOpen

🍯🐝 Irish scientists put Irish raw honey under the microscope and the results should make every household think twice before paying a fortune for imported Manuka. Teams from DCU, Trinity College Dublin and later TUS tested native Irish honeys from real beekeepers heather, ivy, oilseed rape and multifloral blossom honeys. They measured total phenolic content (the compounds linked to antioxidant power) and ran antibacterial tests against common pathogens including E. coli, Staphylococcus aureus and Pseudomonas aeruginosa. Irish heather honey consistently came out on top. Its phenolic content matched or beat Manuka in the original 131-sample study (heather 68 mg GAE/100g vs Manuka 62). Later work on confirmed monofloral samples pushed some Irish heather even higher (over 100 mg GAE/100g). Ivy honey is darker but lower in phenolics than heather still useful, especially against certain bacteria. Oilseed rape honey was the weakest of the Irish types tested. Follow up lab work went further. Irish heather and ivy honeys inhibited bacteria at concentrations comparable to Manuka in several assays, reduced biofilms, and heather even showed synergy with an antibiotic against MRSA. Antioxidant activity was confirmed. Researchers flagged both varieties as promising for wound care and as everyday functional foods. Implications for health and healing. Raw, unheated Irish honey keeps the enzymes, phenolics and natural antimicrobial activity that processing destroys. Darker heather honey in particular looks like a homegrown option for supporting the body’s own antioxidant defences, helping with minor wounds, sore throats and coughs the old fashioned way Adding a nutrient-dense sweetener instead of refined sugar. It is not a miracle cure and it is not medical-grade honey for serious wounds. But it is real food from our own landscape, made by the native Irish black bee (Apis mellifera mellifera) that is uniquely adapted to our climate. Buy raw, local, single-origin or small-batch Irish honey from beekeepers who keep native stock. Look for heather when you can get it. Support the people keeping the bees alive and the land they forage on. We don’t need to import “superfood” honey. Ours already holds its own. 🇮🇪

Use Linux on your computer. Use @GrapheneOS on your phone. Never ever comply with their demands that you ID yourself to use the internet. Should you ID yourself to write with a pen and paper? Or simply to go outside and look at the world?
How will adults access the unrestricted internet without proving who they are? Under the Government’s plans, increasingly, they won’t. Minister Lisa Nandy says the Government will introduce a new law requiring major tech platforms to build government-mandated “protections” directly into phones and tablets. Adults may then have to prove their age to switch them off. But meaningful proof of age ultimately means some form of identity verification - whether through official documents, facial estimation or another approved system. The direction of travel is clear: they want you to submit to an identity check - or accept a restricted internet. We say: Don't ID The Internet. Stop digital ID and age verification systems that function as identity checks, plus device-level surveillance on apps and phones in the UK. Protect parental control and privacy. Protect the open internet. #dontidtheinternet

B HODL UPDATE @bitcoinhodlco | AQSE: $HODL | OTCQB: $BHODF | FRA: $F5S Lightning Infrastructure — LSP Update We hit a significant milestone this week: bhodl-public-01 has crossed $500,000 in total node capacity (albeit measured in fiat dollars, but I like round numbers….), cementing our position as an emerging and accelerating Lightning Service Provider on the network. Per live data from 1ML, the node currently sits at: • 6.6 BTC / $538,000 total capacity • 53 active channels and 51 connected nodes • Ranked #110 globally by capacity, already in the top 2% of all Lightning nodes We believe building and operating serious Lightning infrastructure is core to the B HODL thesis: Bitcoin for our business is not only a treasury asset but also a live, deployable payment network, globally accessible to individuals and businesses alike. Connect to our nodes and request liquidity: lightning.bhodl.com/ Media & Outreach We attended the @AquisStockEx Summer Drinks following the Aquis IPO Academy, which was a great opportunity to reconnect with those working with the exchange and with the broader listed markets community. This included a fortuitous catch up with @JasonADeane of @RenewaBlox; always a pleasure to connect and to discuss their plans for UK domestic Bitcoin mining. I also recorded a podcast with @InvestorSmarter; a wide-ranging conversation covering our model, the Lightning opportunity, and the intersection of Bitcoin and traditional financial structures. We'll share the link when it drops. Bitcoin Corporate Day — Next Week We are a matter of days away from @BtcCorpDay (Tuesday 22 September, The Honourable Artillery Company, London). This will be a closed-door forum for 350 senior decision-makers, held under Chatham House Rules. The team is fully prepared: we have a packed schedule of meetings before and after the event, and I will be speaking. If you're attending and want to connect, please do reach out. A key question for everyone attending will no longer be whether Bitcoin belongs on the balance sheet, but how…. Policy We had a one-to-one meeting this week with a former UK government minister on the state of the Bitcoin and digital assets industry in the UK. We're not in a position to share further details at this stage, but we will do so as soon as we are able. Watch this space! Even though details remain confidential, this is yet more evidence of the increasing attention being paid to Bitcoin by decision makers in many walks of life and in many different contexts, even though the UK as a while might seem to be dragging its feet here. Buy. Hold. Deploy. Compound.

👀 You can choose freedom. Learn about Bitcoin and how to custody it yourself. Or live like a donkey, directed by systems you never bothered to understand. The choice is entirely yours.
🚨IRREVERSIBLE. NO TE DARÁ NADA.

The European Union produces regulation the way bad central banks produce currency: compulsively, at accelerating volume, with complete indifference to the damage it causes. Since 2019, the European Commission has pushed through the Green Deal, the AI Act, the Digital Markets Act, the Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive, and the Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism. Each one arrived packaged as protection. Each one transferred decision-making authority from entrepreneurs to bureaucrats in Brussels who bear zero cost for being wrong. The numbers are brutal. EU productivity growth has averaged roughly 0.7 percent annually since 2010, less than half the U.S. rate over the same period. European venture capital investment in 2025 sat at roughly one-fifth of American levels. The continent that produced BASF, Siemens, and Volkswagen now watches its flagship companies relocate operations or announce layoffs. BASF itself committed to permanently shrinking its Ludwigshafen headquarters, citing energy costs and regulatory compliance loads. Prices coordinate information that no regulator possesses. When Brussels mandates energy transition timelines faster than markets can absorb, you pay the gap directly, through electricity bills that German households now carry at roughly 35 euro cents per kilowatt-hour, nearly triple the American average. Manufacturers pay more. They produce less. They hire fewer people. Regulation compounds. Every new layer of compliance raises the fixed cost of operating, which advantages large incumbents and crushes the small firms that create most net employment. Regulation does not prevent monopoly. It cements it. Existing giants absorb the compliance cost and then lobby for tighter rules their smaller competitors cannot survive. Regulators are not protecting Europe. You are watching a continent price itself out of its own future.

Britain restored the gold standard in 1821, pegging sterling at £3 17s 10½d per troy ounce, and the following decades gave you one of the most instructive experiments in monetary history: falling prices coexisting with explosive real growth. Prices fell. Roughly 50% between 1820 and 1850 by some price indices. The textile mills of Manchester kept expanding. Railway track mileage in Britain jumped from virtually zero in 1820 to over 6,000 miles by 1850. Real wages climbed. The orthodox panic about deflation, the kind you still hear from central bankers today, would have predicted stagnation. Instead you got the industrial revolution, accelerating. The mechanism is simple once you strip away the Keynesian fog. Deflation under a gold standard reflects genuine productivity gains: producers squeeze more output from the same inputs, and prices fall because goods become cheaper to make. This is healthy deflation, not demand collapse. The cotton spinners of Lancashire caused falling yarn prices through innovation. Sound money advocates have always stressed this distinction. Falling prices from productivity growth reward savers, keep capital costs honest, and force businesses to earn their profits through efficiency rather than inflating their way to margins. The British experience between 1821 and 1850 is an inconvenient data point that modern central bankers quietly ignore: a hard currency, shrinking prices, and the fastest sustained economic expansion the world had yet seen. Simultaneously.

An unintentional side benefit of daft regulation in the UK and the EU is going to mean that many more people suddenly find they are holding their Bitcoin in self custody.... And outside the purview of regulators and regulation. Oops!

Unless @Apple's decision to terminate @craigraw's Apple Developer account is reversed by June 30, all new installs of Sparrow will fail, and development on macOS will end. If you value Sparrow, a repost would help. @AppleSupport
My attempt to protect users from scam apps on the @AppStore has gotten my Apple Developer account flagged for termination - ironically, for "dishonest activity". Unless it's reversed by June 30, all new installs of Sparrow Wallet will fail, and development on macOS will end. The context: since 2023, more than a dozen fake "Sparrow" apps have appeared on the App Store, as recently as April this year. Users have contacted me after losing their savings, in some cases their life savings, to these impersonators. I'm the developer of the real Sparrow Wallet, a desktop app, and I hold the registered US trademarks for the name and logo. I have publicly warned @Apple and the community about these fake apps from early 2024, but they keep appearing. The app @Apple flagged was a placeholder that was never published. Its only purpose was to warn users that Sparrow is desktop-only and that other "Sparrow" apps aren't mine. This approach may have been misguided, but there was nothing dishonest about it. I'm confident this is an automated misclassification that Apple would reverse on review - but I may be terminated before a human ever looks at my appeal. The cost would fall on @Apple's own users: blocked installs and no updates for a tool people rely on, which opens the door for more fakes. If you value Sparrow, a repost would help. @AppleSupport

Paper: doi.org/10.1016/j.eneco.2026… Short answer, on real 2024 Irish market data: yes, but only with efficient hardware and a sensible dispatch strategy. What we modelled: a 100 MW Irish wind farm, a miner from 0 to 90 MW, 2024 I-SEM hourly prices, two hardware generations (the old Antminer S9 and the more efficient S21 Hydro), six operating strategies, and a full six-year appraisal.

I just got back from the Bitcoin Energy Summit in Lisbon and I have a question that won't leave me alone. First some context: Bitcoin mining is now stabilizing the grids of 7 nations, 4 agencies (including the Spanish Govt and the World's largest energy policy association) just called for more flexible demand being critical to the resilience of the grids of the future - and Bitcoin mining is the world's most flexible load resource by an order of magnitude. So in light of this my question is this: why is 95% of the Bitcoin adoption conversation about Bitcoin-as-money when Bitcoin-as-energy is already deployed on grids across 3 continents? Is it possible that energy is the Bitcoin usecase that paves the road for mainstream acceptance of Bitcoin in the West? I've been in this space for four years now. When I started, the conversation was "bitcoin mining wastes energy." A group of Bitcoiners including @thetrocro, @jyn_urso and others changed that. Then it became "ok maybe it doesn't waste energy, but it's not useful." @gladstein, @jack and others changed that too. But here's what I noticed in Lisbon. Three separate European organisations - the European Bitcoin Energy Association, Free Madeira, and the Institut National de Bitcoin in France - are all independently converging on the same conclusion. @geyer_rachel, Chair of EBEA said energy is what will move the needle for Bitcoin in Europe. @andreloja at @FREEMadeiraOrg said energy is the most topical issue in Europe right now. Bastien Desteuque (@Proxy18387764), directeur général at @BitcoinPolicyFr said they're focusing on mining because France has spare nuclear capacity and that's where the biggest opportunity is. Three organisations. Same conclusion. And that's before you get to what's actually being built. In Sweden, a man I coach runs ASIC hardware that earns almost two-thirds of its revenue from frequency regulation - keeping the lights on, responding in seconds to the need of the grid operator, and helping to stabilize the grid an incredible 11,247 times last year alone. (Yes, you read that sentence right). In Lisbon, I watched Kenji Tateiwa present a circular economy where bitcoin mining heat grows tropical fish and the CO2 gets converted to charcoal and micro diamonds. Bastian outlined how France's surplus nuclear energy could be absorbed by bitcoin mining by 2027. And outside the West, from stabilizing the economy of Bhutan post-covid to helping save Virunga National Park in Africa - Bitcoin mining was behind both events and many more. This phenomenon is a global one. The conversation has quietly moved from "does bitcoin mining help grids?" to "how many services can one machine provide?" We've been thinking about this like monoculture - one machine, one function. What I saw in Lisbon is permaculture. The same hardware doing frequency regulation, heat capture, Sats-minting ... and potentially in the near future - voltage regulation (something that would have prevented the 28 April 2025 Iberian Peninsular Blackout). I talked to Bitcoin founders after the keynote who told me the energy thesis had opened their eyes. These are people who worked to advance Bitcoin payment infrastructure, and they hadn't fully grasped this. Bitcoin solves a monetary problem the world is only beginning to understand. I'm more convinced of that than ever. And ... as we wait for that revolution to be fully grasped, the energy revolution is already here - deployed, generating revenue, stabilizing grids. It might just be the thing that opens the door for everything else. What other Bitcoin use case is this far along ... at least in the West?

Our money is poisoning us And nobody's talking about it When your currency loses 7% a year, time horizons collapse Farmers can't afford to build soil for 10 years Food companies can't invest in quality ingredients People can't cook from scratch working two jobs So they optimize for survival: Pesticides instead of crop rotation - 3x faster Seed oils instead of tallow - 90% cheaper Fast food instead of real food Every shortcut makes economic sense when money dies slowly The incentives flip from Nourish our bodies to Don't go bankrupt this quarter Whether it’s a business or an individual It's killing us Society declines when we use money that declines Fix the money, fix the food

Privacy, and our basic freedoms, are under attack from all sides. Incredibly, the so-called 'liberal democracies' are now leading these attacks; arresting their own citizens for posting online, rolling out facial recognition cameras, and moving to ban VPNs. "What can men do against such reckless hate?" And are we losing this battle? Absolutely not. There's still time to fight back, and we have much in our arsenal. We at @bitcoinpolicyuk have put together a 'Privacy Toolkit', that should let anyone, whatever their skill level, take a few small steps towards improving their privacy and their freedom, and making themselves just a little bit harder for governments to track and to oppress. This isn't comprehensive, and we'll continue to update it as time goes by. We hope it's useful to everyone and serves as a handy guide to help us all push back against government overreach, wherever we find it. Link in the thread and comments welcome! 👇

BREAKING: The Netherlands just told its citizens to go to hell. 61,000 signatures. Parliament reviewed it. And kept it anyway. You don't have to sell anything. You don't have to make a single euro. You just have to own assets while they go up. And the government will send you a bill. Every. Single. Year. No cash? Doesn't matter. Pay up. Asset crashed after you paid? Too bad. This is not a tax system. This is state-sanctioned theft with a bureaucratic stamp on it. Every other country is trying to attract crypto wealth. - Luxembourg buying Bitcoin. - The U.S. protecting crypto legislation. - UAE building crypto banks. And the Netherlands? Taxing you for having the audacity to invest. The most financially repressive tax in modern Dutch history. And they chose it deliberately. Because your money is more useful to them than it is to you.
