Cognitive Load Theory (Sweller & Chandler)
Teenagers have started calling AI art "boomer art" and consider it cringe, and YouTubers have stopped using AI-generated thumbnails because teenagers find them cringe and won't click on them. I honestly couldn't be happier.

🇪🇺🇺🇸In Germany the Land of Schleswig-Holstein is fighting for digital sovereignty by replacing US software with open-source alternatives.
They're replacing Microsoft Office with LibreOffice, Outlook with Thunderbird & testing Linux vs Windows.
But we've more examples in Europe:
🇫🇷 France (Lyon): Transitioning from MS Office to PostgreSQL, Linux, and OnlyOffice to protect municipal data.
⚖️ Intl Criminal Court: Ditching Microsoft Office in favor of Open Desk, the European open-source suite.
✈️ Airbus: Moving critical/sensitive assets from foreign clouds to a dedicated European sovereign cloud.
🇩🇪 Germany (Military): Rolling out Open Desk across the Bundeswehr to ensure secure, independent communications.
🏥 France (Health Data Hub): Formally exiting Microsoft Azure for a European cloud provider to secure patient data.
🇳🇱 Netherlands: Parliament has officially urged the government to build its own National Cloud.
💶 Eurozone: Pushing the "Wero" and Digital Euro to reduce dependency on Visa/Mastercard.
There are other similar initiatives. I track them but I can't get them all.

“…vocabulary-rich children arrive at school with a hidden cognitive advantage ... They have heard “ridiculous” and “extraordinary” and “investigation” at the dinner table, in bedtime stories, in the overheard conversations of articulate adults. Their minds have been silently sketching the spellings of hundreds of words they have never read..
“Children from language-poor environments arrive without those skeletons…
“It is a gap in prediction. And it compounds: the child who reads more easily reads more, hears more words in the context of text, forms more skeletons, and reads still more easily. The child who struggles reads less, encounters fewer new words, forms fewer skeletons, and falls further behind.”

Heisst:
AOC: We don’t have to talk about this as if it’s a hypothetical issue. Just a couple of months ago, Discord tried to roll out “age verification.” They contracted with a third party to conduct facial scanning — not just of kids, but also of adults. They decided to launch a teen default setting where they would lock users into a teen-appropriate experience. Which, mind you, if you are an adult who does not opt in, you then get cordoned off into the teen experience. Explain to me how that has anything to do with children’s safety.
The only way to get out of that censored version is by scanning your face. What’s more shocking is that Discord made the decision to move forward with this after they had been hacked and 70,000 users had their data stolen.
Haha, Timberlake with the perfect shutdown!
But for real, that pyramid's percentages? Total myth—no data, just vibes that stuck around way too long.
Real retention? Retrieval, practice, feedback. Let's keep roasting the bad ones. What's your top classroom win from the science?

Schools exist to support families, not replace parents.
That means parents need to actually parent, and the govt & communities need to stop treating schools as the fix for bad parenting.
If you’re an educator who thinks otherwise, you’ve watched too many teacher hero movies.

I’ve moved away from traditional homework too, but not because of workload. The real issue is academic integrity. Once tasks leave the room, the temptation to copy, share answers or use AI becomes almost impossible to manage.
Instead, I use Extension Tasks. In the final 15 to 20 minutes of the week, pupils complete an online quiz in class. It is quick to mark, everyone completes it and I get a clear and honest picture of what they actually know. There is no chasing homework and no uncertainty about who can do what. It simply gives me reliable data that helps me plan the next steps.

In the same hallway as the teacher with low‑rigor games and mindless cut and paste activities is the one with “shut up sheets” (busy work from Google) and “shut up note‑taking” (copying from the board). The only commonality is both thought last week’s PD was a waste of time.

They should teach this in every school:
EVERYTHING you learn, even basic math, decays over time unless you use it regularly in daily life or make a deliberate effort to practice it.
This phenomenon is known as Ebbinghaus’s Forgetting Curve.
