Here's this weeks analysis.
Replying to @AuburnFootball
@AuburnFootball took down #1 @GeorgiaFootball Saturday. Instead of watching the game, I spent the weekend looking at nine years of Auburn football and men's basketball spending. I draw on every line of Auburn's NCAA financial reports, FY2017–FY2025, and the same lines for every other public SEC school. 🧵

Update: minutes after this went up, the NCAA sued DeWine in federal court. Baker also told members the Ohio Supreme Court's stay did not reinstate the players' injunction, and that schools reading it otherwise "bear the risk of that interpretation." Update box is at the top of the piece.
1/ Ohio's governor told his colleges to stop enforcing the NCAA's class-of-2022 rule. As law, it's thin. A day later, Ohio's Supreme Court froze the appeals ruling against two dozen players to ask what the order means. They're eligible again, for now. Link to story in reply...

When you can show us the coaches and ADs that stay in smaller markets rather than leaving for a better opportunity, maybe people will empathize. It’s just “business” for coaches and administrators, yet loyalty is questioned with players, and “it’s all about the money.” Please.
"It's All About Money" as UCLA HC @CoachMickCronin speaks the TRUTH about Recruiting and Retainment in this clip from yesterdays @bigten Men's Basketball Media Day. Coach always keeps it real and we HEAR he flips a mean burger too!

It's getting ugly out there
Saving College Sports, Cody Campbell's org backing the Protect College Sports Act, has distributed a memo to stakeholders outlining next steps. The memo, obtained by @FOS, calls out ACC schools who have been asking House Reps to vote no unless expansion restriction is removed.

It is not just the ACC who's creating problems for the PCSA, which is a silly way to play this politically in my opinion. There's better paths, like the one the NCAA sent out this afternoon. All that said, the effort to pass the PCSA will run into a much larger foe, a foe the size of the Democratic Party caucus who, when this is taken up after the election will (very very likely) have taken back the House of Representatives AND Leader Jeffries will be whipping his entire caucus, including the @TheBlackCaucus, against the PCSA as it stands, turning it into a party vote. (My suspicion is that very few Ds will defect from the whip in the lame duck session, especially with all the partisan efforts going on behind the scenes.) That means Rs have to quell every dissenter in order to pass the PCSA as is, even though this bill is further to the left than what SCORE was. This also is very unlikely to happen. This bill is very unlikely to make it through the House unamended. The NCAA's and other Campbell efforts can still be successful, but they need to actually need to address the Realpolitik of the situation. None of this is impossible--there are still ways to make this happen (which why I'm not at a 0% probability, but 25-30ish%), but this probably ain't gonna do it.

Nobody is FORCING AD’s and college prez to pay FB&MBB head coaches 15M x 6 years with 50M buyouts. Want to be fiscally responsible?- stop the buyout madness and roll back long-term deals to 3 years. Make head coaches earn those salaries. Make them win games to get paid..
Many still don’t want to admit it, but Ryan Smith is spot on when he says high level college sports are pro sports. And the reason college sports doesn’t have enforceable rules is because it refuses to admit this truth.

Who pays for public college athletics, and how much of the bill falls on students? I ran an analysis for @NILNewsstand. Built from 9 years of NCAA MFRS reports obtained through public records requests, covering 228 public D-I schools. 🧵
