Boomer here. I bought my first house after ten years of saving like crazy. And the interest was 14.5%.
I don’t know where kids got the idea that they were due a house and new car at college graduation, but that’s NOT how it ever was.

In the US, median home was 3.5x income in 1984 vs 5x today (FRED). Even at 14.5%, smaller loans meant similar monthly burden. Boomers carried near-zero student debt (avg ~$40k today). First-time buyer age was 29 then vs 40 now (NAR). Housing is objectively less affordable.
