Apart from anything else, the fact that unemployment rates and company liquidations are the highest in years should be enough reason to ditch this government. I am so over this nonsense that National is or ever has been good for the economy.
From 1986 to 2023 every NZ government, on average, yearly added 34,000 jobs, but the coalition has LOST 35,000 jobs. In Sept 2023 unemployment was 3.9%, it's now 5.6%. 20,000 construction jobs gone, 3000 hospitality business folded in a year. The coalition has ruined the economy

Wellingtons nightlife dead. Insolvencies hit decade high. Starship cancels children’s cancer services due to lack of nurses. Nursing colleges told to stop training so many nurses. One week’s news.

How unhappy and bitter would you have to be to think that beneficiaries should be drug tested. Sitting there with your rum and coke being all miserable that some beneficiary is getting high on your dime. Move on with your life.

This is insane. I’ve never been asked to salute our flag. How ridiculous. What values? List the top five, and then show me who ‘doesn’t honour them’. The nonsense that comes out of this party.
Concerns are growing about some people who come here, don’t salute our flag, don’t honour our values, don’t honour our country, and don’t respect the people who live here. These are values we need to fight to protect. If you come to New Zealand and don’t want to respect those values, my answer is simple: Don’t come. Me rongo Billy Brown

The anti Māori rhetoric the TPU used to discredit three waters is no surprise, yet no less appalling. Playing to the lowest common denominator (racists) is such low fruit. And now we have councils in turmoil scrabbling together agreements. 1/2

Without some form of Iwi ownership, water infrastructure is poised for privatisation with smaller councils (Greytown still bans new developments as our infrastructure is fucked) left high and dry. Slow hand clap for those who moaned about ‘the maoris’. You were played.

When you lose your job, as thousands have during this government’s term, your income plummets. Add to that the recent policies that have tightened work obligations and sanctions rather than expanded support.

This is a cruel and inaccurate statement from Goldsmith after introducing his move on legislation. But then, maybe cruelty is the point.

Why do we accept that ‘9 new taxes’ is a slur anyway? Labour needs to back themselves by explaining what they pay for, while also pointing out what National aren’t paying for. Doctors and nurses for a bloody start. Stop playing defence and get some boundaries

It puzzled me at the time as National had always been the party of centralisation. Apparently I was wrong. So they cancelled 3 Waters. Now they are demanding that councils amalgamate, and create centralised water management companies. This is fucking annoying

Imagine the money that had already gone towards 3 Waters. The work by engineers, the public servants hrs, the various expensive reports commissioned, all for nothing. And now it all has to be done again. Oh and by the way, 4% rates cap as well.

This is not how you run a country. Unless of course your intention is to privatise infrastructure. So just come out and say it. National are being dishonest in their approach to governance when it’s obvious they just want to hand as much over to the private Sector as possible

Back when 3 waters was a thing, I recall debating on here with Nat supporters and was told constantly that 3 waters would take assets away from local councils. Good I would say. We need to reduce costs by centralising management and get our septic and water delivery sorted. 1/

Paul Henry talking under a confederate flag showed surprisingly poor judgement for a former media man but it’s these statements that make me wonder about dementia. At this point you have to be insane to look upon the Trump presidency and think ‘yeah, that’s what we should do’

Small threaded rant about why this election is Labours election to lose, why they will lose, and how I reckon they could possibly turn it around. Bear with

I don’t know, can Hipkins turn it around? Possibly. But it needs radical change. This is a tic tok election. The old school media training is out. Cleverly filmed speech excerpts are in. Cleverly filmed debate soundbites are in. Speeches need ‘toppers’ to remain relevant

As an observer, nothing in our politicians media persona has changed since the 90s. Winston is still Winston. National leader is still a seriously suited yawn. While Labour are still trying their best to lose. Somethings gotta give.
