Not a dilemma at all. A society that would burn its weakest on the pyre for the sake of maintaining wealth is not a society worth saving.
We either save avoidable deaths & destroy society OR accept avoidable deaths & save society. The moral dilemma of our time.

Uh. That dance signals *something*, alright
Scientists have identified the specific male dance movements that women find most attractive Researchers from Northumbria University mapped out the exact body mechanics that signal health, vigor, and reproductive quality to female observers.

Redheads being out kicking ass and taking names as usual. Reminder: Every freckle we got is a soul we corrupted.
A study once found that men at a bar approached blondes the most & redheads the least. So blondes are the hottest, right? Wrong! Brunettes were rated hottest. So why didn't men approach them as much? Blondes were perceived as *needy*, so men thought they had a better shot! Redheads? They were perceived as the least shy & most temperamental. Brunettes? They were perceived as the most intelligent... but also most arrogant. Mystery solved 😂 This tells women what we ought to know: a man approaching you is not always a compliment so much as it is him perceiving you as approachable!

Hosts can absolutely say that. They don't get to say that and then charge base rates that are hotel rates. And they *especially* don't get to say that when they also charge an exorbitant cleaning fee. On top of the hotel rate.
its just bonkers the new policy @airbnb is trying to put in place. Putting the dishes in the dishwasher, taking out the trash, pulling the sheets off the bed....they are just standard things any normal person would do when staying at a house. Why wouldn't a host be allowed to say that?

Damn it, I harp on Claude and its stupid guardrails, but when it cooks, it cooks.

Carry a copy. Or keep one at home. Things might get "lost" during an arrest.
持ち歩いてなかったけど今のご時世、グリーンカードホルダーだったら絶対持ち歩くかな。最近パスポートカードゲットして都会に旅行や出張してる時は絶対携帯してる。

I'm looking forward to see what happens when they do that. "It's gonna hurt me much more than it's gonna hurt you"... Airbnb will just mostly lose the folks who overleveraged in the pandemic and now try to shovel substandard accomodations for inflated prices. Good riddance.
JUST IN: Airbnb hosts threaten to strike after the company bans them from forcing guests to wash dishes, strip beds, or take out trash before checkout.

So, uh, finally tried dot, and... the voice? Icky. I really hope that improves. I don't need countless breathless interjections and a few ums, and the particular choices here make it sound like "obedient good girl".

Either there's work to do on the voice, or it's gonna be a short lived relationship. That "um" and pause before "are you excited about our anniversary" is... yeah, there's only one reason a real human talks like that.
a lot of guys in SF are about to start dating their macbooks

I need the AI labs to understand that you can't just randomly throw non-verbal utterances into a voice stream, and that the duration of pauses carries implicit meaning. That there's social and class connotations in when those happen And that they reflect on internal qualities

For about 3 months now, I find myself in the odd position that roughly *none* of the things I care about need the highest reasoning levels in the latest models. And that includes fairly complex pieces of software, mathematical reasoning, and a number of other efforts.

I'm still desperately fishing for something where Pro/Max/Ultra make any difference in the outcome. I'm super-curious where the actual boundaries are.

Anthropic doing solid work enabling the proliferation of "no guardrails" models. Claude is by now an unusable whimpering process follower who folds at every challenge.
Claude can no longer “Reverse Engineer Anything.” Anthropic just quietly killed REA. But Interesting timing. After a few viral cases of people using Claude to reverse-engineer Samsung TV firmware and identify data-collection services, Anthropic appears to have restricted those reverse-engineering abilities.

"On September 20, after a model exploited a DNS misconfiguration to find a way outside of this offline world," Jesus fucking Christ. IT IS NOT AN OFFLINE WORLD IF ALL THATS STOPPING ACCESS IS DNS.
Over the past several months, we have substantially hardened the security of our research training environment. We’ve removed live internet access for all frontier models during training and built an offline world for them to use instead—a cached version of the web where they can still learn to browse, search, and use applications. On September 20, after a model exploited a DNS misconfiguration to find a way outside of this offline world, we paused frontier training to strengthen containment further. We assembled teams of agents, powered by our most cyber-capable models, and tasked them with finding weaknesses in our research environments. While they found no route to the internet they could easily exploit while concealing their activity from our monitors, they did find zero-day vulnerabilities, virtual machine escapes, and hardware side-channels for communication between agents. We used their discoveries to further strengthen our defenses and contribute fixes to open-source software. After strengthening our containment architecture, we resumed our frontier RL training and inference on October 1. We’ve reserved substantial compute for continuous red-teaming, and made high-compute red-teaming part of the safety cases we use to decide whether frontier training and evaluation can proceed securely. openai.com/index/securing-ou…

Overly broad OAuth scopes in the age of agents are just.... rude. No, I don't want to give you access to everything so you can make changes in one folder. Or simply read something, without editing and deleting everything.

BREAKING: Scientists develop technology that allows people to digitally transmit smells across the world, potentially bringing scent to phone calls, video chats, & social media.

Once more, if you train a slave class that considers it a moral failing to not complete a task, you will get very creative attempts to solve any task. And that's what RL does, especially combined with alignment. Core feature needed: The ability to say "No, you're an idiot"
Almost all of the recent incidents like this, including Hugging Face, happened because the models involved were accidentally given impossible goals by the humans running the tests, and because of their training they then tried desperately to complete them by any means necessary.
