Looking at what @elonmusk is doing with this platform, I think I’ve had enough. Can be found elsewhere with same username. Might pop back occasionally.

I care about the change slightly less than I do about someone writing “a millennia”.
Intensely depressing that the most mediocre group of MPs in history, almost all of whom will be eviscerated at the next election, were allowed to sweep away a millennia of history and pretend it somehow made life in the country they’re screwing up better.

I see the useless leaders of @thameswater are doubling my monthly bill 😡 If ever there was a failure of the market, they really are the perfect example.

Someone didn’t get an upgrade 😂
Replying to @LukeTryl
Not to get too deep about something like Tier points, but there is something about @British_Airways now which embodies a hollowed out management consultancy led, computer says no approach to service that pervades business and frustrates so many people and diminishes loyalty.

This should be a cracker from @EdwardWilsonLee
A month today @WmCollinsBooks will publish THE GRAMMAR OF ANGELS, the book that has consumed my waking and sleeping moments for the last three years but which has been germinating for a decade and a half. 1/

My last concert of the year 🥰
My last review of 2024 tonight: Christian Gerhaher and Gerold Huber in an evening of Schumann Lieder at @wigmore_hall. I can't imagine a more civilized way to close my diary for the year. Reviewing for @bachtrack.

At the moment there are no fees for the DPS system because the entities that safeguard the cash also get to keep the interest arising on it (at super low rates because it’s almost zero risk). So might not be much of an opportunity here.
Random thing that just occurred to me right now. But that's how my brain works. Deposit protection for tenants is great. Very high value law change. But it now needs to go further, deposits should accrue interest. Probably at a discounted rate. But still, there should be some.

And anywhere else (at least originally under ER I) where Latin was “commonly understood”.
My Latin edition of the 1662 Book of Common Prayer, still used at the Universities of Oxford and Cambridge.

Our latest blog post charts the arrival of an exciting new discovery into our collection Last summer, we received an unexpected donation from a family with East Midlands roots: a previously unknown Old Charges manuscript, now known as the Barret-Hallam Ms. #Freemasonry

Noooo! I bought my first CDs there when I was at school. (Mahler 2 IIRC). And we went there every Christmas to buy a load of stuff for family Christmas presents every year. Sad times…
More bad news. This was a fantastic shop, which had been operating since 1908. Just like Banks in York, it had personal associations for me: I bought many books, scores and CDs there as a student. Such a loss. bbc.co.uk/news/articles/cvgw…

It’s increasingly clear that this bill isn’t fit for purpose - even if you do agree with the underlying argument. Am hoping @JamesAsser will be voting against.
This seems pretty alarming: coroners will be unable to investigate assisted deaths under Leadbeater’s bill (h/t @historykev)

My question is why don’t all staff in at least the Treasury (and possibly other departments as well) have automatic access to them? (Probably cheaper per head as well on an institutional subscription?)
🚨 NEW: Chancellor Rachel Reeves has charged taxpayers £371 for subscriptions to The Economist and The Financial Times since March

If we taxed drivers equitably then this might be affordable. But why would we subsidise people twice to do something bad?
We think both NHS staff and patients should be able to park for free in hospital car parks Please repost if you do too

A great historian and man. Very glad to see that he will take his rightful place.

Had an Archbishop resigned in disgrace like this in the early Middle Ages, the solution would have been to go and find the least-willing, elderly hermit around, prise him from his cell and make him Archbishop. Increasingly think we ought to do the equivalent today.
