El Salvador’s deployment is a publicity stunt with no clear military objective, designed to save face following a fiasco before Bukele’s reelection next year. We know this because it hasn’t been confirmed if the missing aviation techs are alive or dead. So is this a search and rescue mission? A capture mission to punish those responsible? A mission to “end the gangs” overall? Or revenge?
