He forgot to explain what 'respect' means in his vocabulary. I suspect it means others behaving to him as if he were female, while he himself is free to disrespect every woman and woman's space.

Which outcome is worse? 1. "Passing" poorly in adulthood? VS 2. Possibly "passing," but having no sexual function, a less developed brain, brittle bones, infertility, constant pain, UTIs... and missing sexual parts? A parent's job is to guide the child to the better future outcome. The best future outcome is OUTGROWING self hatred, only possible if one does not reify or medicalize this ideation.

@jbvconnor For many, a fixed trans identity provides a rigid psychological structure that hides underlying uncertainty and doubt about who they are and where they fit in. They may believe that a trans identity is the solution to their underlying insecurities. It may also create an idealised avatar that promises, in effect: “If only I’d been born differently, I’d be much happier with myself and free of self-hatred.” Any invitation to think or explore the nature of this belief system can be experienced as a threat, causing psychological pain. The young person’s own doubts and confusion may be disowned and attributed to therapists or parents. Good therapy involves two stages: first, understanding the way the individual sees the world; then, helping them gain enough distance from that identification to become interested in other perspectives and ways of thinking about themselves. This means bringing their beliefs and the function they serve into view. The affirmation model can bypass this process by supporting the young person unreservedly without first bringing those beliefs and their function into view, or helping them consider other perspectives. In this way, there can be a collusion between the patient and the clinician. What remains unexamined is that the capacity to tolerate psychological turbulence is essential for psychological development. Therapeutic work requires experienced therapists who can support the individual over time, often working uncomfortably between two risks: on the one hand, pushing the patient to face reality in a way that may rupture the therapeutic relationship; on the other, avoiding the difficulty by becoming collusive and ineffective. In effect, the affirmation model exchanges short-term relief from doubt, confusion and uncertainty for security, leading to a psychic retreat from developmental opportunities. In this way, it protects both the patient and the clinician from the psychic pain and turbulence involved in exploring and thinking things through. Another problem is that these psychic defences flatten the capacity to experience pleasure as well as pain. Tragically, short-term solutions to psychic pain can have hidden long-term consequences. A symptom of this problem is clinical teams’ proud boasts that they knew the patient should transition because the young person was so certain. These boasts treat the young person’s certainty as a sign of health, rather than a red flag that they may be caught in a rigid belief system that exchanges thought for certainty. A more in-depth version of this argument is available in this open-access paper: onlinelibrary.wiley.com/shar… @CASCltd @rachelbaxendale @stellaomalley3

Terence McKenna once pointed out that “Truth does not require your participation to exist. Bullshit does.” He wasn’t actually talking about gender ideology — he died in 2000 — but he certainly could have been. Being “trans” is a team activity. It requires outside validation, which means that the people around the “trans” person must also deny reality. This ability to enact social control over others is one reason why claiming a trans identity is so attractive to narcissists and sadists. They get to punish people who won’t play along via social isolation, as well as by carrying out violence and physical retaliation against non-participants. They also share specific threats and fantasies of raping and otherwise violating the women who stand up to them. Prominence in the gender critical movement comes complete with death threats and stalkers: these are men who simply cannot tolerate a woman’s no. The trans movement demands submission from women and girls: we are expected to give up our hard-won sports and spaces for no better reason than that some men have decided that they want them. It really is that simple: they demand, and we are told that unless we capitulate, we are terrible people who deserve to be raped and tortured. And why? Because the lie that is a “trans” identity cannot exist independently. It can only be propped up by audience participation, and the people who claim one know this.

"People should be allowed to use spaces they feel most comfortable in." So why aren't you allowing me to use a female-only space, as that is the space I feel most comfortable in? "People should be allowed to us spaces in accordance with their 'gender identity'" Then where are the spaces for "nonbinary" individuals or individuals of any of the other 50 or so "gender identities"? Where are the spaces for people like myself (and the majority of the human populace) who don't have a "gender identity"? "A sign won't stop men from attacking women if they want to do so" Then there is also no need for men pretending to be women to use the women's for their 'safety,' as men who want to attack them will do so anyway. "There are stalls, so bathrooms are private" Then men pretending to be women will have that same privacy in the stalls in the men's room. "How would you enforce that?" Social contract, and if we see someone walk in who is obviously male, we get security or call the police. There is no way to "enforce" spaces based on "gender-identity" since that is based entirely on a person's say-so. "Would you want someone like this (shows woman on T) in the bathroom with you?" Those women can already use the women's room. Actual men who look like that can also use the women's room as well, so that's a moot question. "You're supporting segregation." Absolutely, as are you. I would just like spaces segregated by sex and you would like them segregated by sex with exceptions for men and women who pretend to be the opposite sex.

It is not a ‘human right’ for a man to perform intimate examinations on a woman who has requested same-sex care. It is not a ‘human right’ for a man to access women's rape crisis centres. It is not a ‘human right’ for a man to force women to remove their clothes in front of him. It is not a ‘human right’ for a man to compete in women's sporting competitions. It’s not a ‘human right’ for a man to emotionally manipulate, or coerce everyone around him to deny what they know to be true and address him as the opposite sex. It is a human right to be free of harm and discrimination, but it is not a human right to demand access to language, rights and provisions fought for, on the basis of sex. Trans women are not a type of woman. They are a type of man.

Just as most men aren't rapists, voyeurs or domestic abusers, so there are plenty of trans women who pose no risk to women and girls. However, some trans-identified men provably are a risk. We know this because it's a matter of public record. Trans women have been convicted of all the crimes listed above, and of femicide. No study has ever proven that trans-identified men don't have the same pattern of criminality as every other kind of man. All available evidence points the other way: they are just as likely as any other man to be a rapist or a woman-killer. The evidence is plain to see in government statistics and court reports, however much you'd like to pretend none of those exist. Demanding that women and girls pretend there is no risk to themselves, which you do constantly, is itself abusive. Your insistence that you belong in women-only spaces, and your pretence that the likelihood of harm to females in those spaces doesn't increase with every man who's allowed inside, mark you out as precisely the kind of man who should be nowhere near women's and girls' locker rooms. Decent men, however they identify, respect women's boundaries. Even if they themselves would never dream of harming a girl or woman, they are under no illusions about what some of their fellow men will do if given access to spaces where women and girls are undressed or otherwise vulnerable. As for women who commit terrible crimes: I have literally never heard any woman deny that Myra Hindley, Karla Homolka or Joanna Dennehy are female. Nor have I ever seen a woman argue that being a woman entitles them to enter spaces reserved for vulnerable people, without having a professional or family-related reason for being there. Yet another difference between women and trans-identified men of your type is that the former aren't demanding, en masse, the right to go where they clearly don't belong - for instance, into a nursery where they have neither a child nor a job, or onto an intensive care ward when they know nobody and have no medical qualifications, purely because they consider themselves to be especially kind and nurturing. Even if such an interloper didn't hurt a child or a critically ill person, women as a class understand how inappropriate it would be to push themselves into those spaces and just how much justified disquiet they'd cause by doing so. The entitlement and disregard you show for the feelings and boundaries of women and girls are of those of an unfortunately all-too-common type of male. You believe you have the right to demand that women sacrifice their own personal safety to validate your feelings about yourself. You're either indifferent to the fact that you might make women and girls uneasy at best, and scared at worst, or you're well aware that you'll have that effect, and the thought gives you a thrill. Nothing about that makes you a woman. On the contrary, you just keep proving, over and over again, that you are a man.

You want to know what’s truly homophobic? Telling gays and lesbians how they should think, how they should act, how they should vote, and who they should interact with and that’s all the LGBTQIA+ cult does. And if they don’t comply, they punish them for stepping out of line.

Why should men who misrepresent their sex to others be part of a "protected group" when their sexual offending rate is actually higher than for the rest of their sex? "Trans" should not be a sacred caste when it comes to safeguarding women and children. womensspaceireland.ie/posts/…

Men shouldn't be in women's and girls' changing rooms, period. There is no test in existence to determine whether a man is or is not a threat to women before he's committed an assault. Innumerable men who claim to be women have sexually assaulted women. A simple Google search will give you the names and histories. Men as a group pose a threat to women, as a group. The statistics don't change when the men identify as women. On the contrary, there are currently more trans-identified men in jail in the UK for sexual offences than there are among the general male prison population. The reason this man was able to access unclothed women is that Planet Fitness thought it was progressive to let men into women's single-sex spaces. Women have been warning for years that women and girls would be harmed if corporations and institutions decided to placate the trans lobby and admit men to changing rooms and public bathrooms. These sexual assaults were entirely preventable. I repeat: I hope the women who've been assaulted sue.

Female spaces exist because women are female. Changing the label from “sex” to “gender” doesn’t change the reason those spaces were created. Changing rooms, hospital wards, prisons, refuges, toilets and other intimate spaces aren’t segregated because women have a particular personality or a feminine aesthetic. They’re segregated because sex matters. And women are allowed to say that it still matters.

Maybe next time they should ask how people perceive bi & homosexual men so people can agitate about any prejudices cultivated by patriarchal norms, *without* it being linked to the sexual autonomy of the very class designated as sexual & reprod resource for all men by those norms

As a very monogamous woman I like to hold the illusion I can be my partner’s ‘everything’. The awareness he likes dick too demolishes that illusion, and leaves that side of his sexuality unknowable to me while exposing me to unlimited infidelity anxiety. Not worth it.

I think women should be free to choose who they're intimate with. If being bi is a dealbreaker then that is that, you are out of luck. No means no. It is no character flaw of hers to be negged at and assigned socially ruinous pejoratives to, it's her business, her preference.

I think it's disingenuous to suggest that sexual behaviour is not an obvious factor in whether a person is a desirable partner. This is true for everyone

I think that it’s very weird in the era when things like asexuality and demisexuality have been held up as things to recognise, feeling wired for a purely heterosexual lover is somehow deplorable bigotry. The one form of wiring that’s not OK, is one most women have. Go figure.

The complacent talk of empathy from @SamanthaNiblet4 is infuriating. Samantha, where is your empathy for women traumatised by male sexual violence who simply will not use "single-sex" spaces unless they can be confident they won't find men in them?
Here was my response to Samantha Niblett on single sex spaces on Politics Live. It was a very polite debate but goes without saying on this issue we fundamentally disagree. Women should not have to be subjected to biologically male bodies in spaces such as changing rooms, domestic abuse shelters and prisons
