The more that members of the Trump administration talk, the more it sounds as if Plan A to stop the war was to coerce Ukraine into capitulation and Plan B was to keep repeating Plan A until it worked. When it became apparent that wasn't going to happen, they were out of ideas.

Comment from me: Of course, these are all lies. Russia carries the blame entirely for starting the war of aggression in 2014 and then launching a full-scale invasion in 2022. Putin wants to present the war as an existential event when it was, in fact, his conscious and unprovoked choice. Impunity pushed Russia towards more aggression.

To be fair: for RU, destroying Ukraine is only collateral damage. The long term goal was and is dismantling NATO and the ominous West from the inside. The US as a hegemon ruled by $, trade and military might. The RU model: a bit of conquer, a lot of divide.
