On Wednesday, @humaneworldorg and other conservation groups sued to overturn a Trump administration rule that leaves threatened wildlife with no certain, meaningful protection under the #EndangeredSpeciesAct. The ESA was designed to prevent extinction by protecting vulnerable wildlife before it’s too late. But the federal government is eliminating automatic safeguards for species newly listed as threatened, creating a more complicated process that could leave animals at greater risk. #InternationalSlothDay 🦥 is a reminder that sloths are increasingly exploited in roadside zoos and animal encounters—often with devastating consequences. A @humaneworldorg investigation exposed shocking mistreatment at Larry Wallach’s Sloth Encounters, and @USDA_APHIS later cancelled his license. Yet Wallach has reportedly continued exhibiting sloths without a license. The bipartisan Better CARE for Animals Act would help to close this enforcement gap by empowering @USDA and @TheJusticeDept to coordinate in serious Animal Welfare Act violation cases—cases like what happened at Sloth Encounters—in order to seek removal of animals from dangerous situations and prevent tragedy.
