I defend China all day on my page, but this Mbappé dictator meme incident will go down in history as China's biggest PR blunder of all time.
Mbappé never explicitly called Mao Zedong a dictator. The meme was birthed on the internet, and I can bet my ass that Mbappé does not even know who Mao Zedong is, let alone his significance to the Communist revolution in China. He simply assumed the person they superimposed his face onto was a dictator, hence the phrase "Chinese dictator."
