@andyburnham shld confront greenwashing initiatives incl socially unjust LTN traffic relocation schemes brought in by councils, often under the guise of tackling climate change, earning private consultancies/building contractors £millions of public money

.@LonTravelWatch wants to see a halt to floating bus stops;
Most of the London Assembly want floating bus stops halting;
The Government’s disabled transport advisory committee wants to see them halted;
The Tory Party want them halted
The RNIB want them halted;
Guide Dogs want them halted;
Pocklington Trust want them halted;
The National Federation for the Blind UK and 290 other groups want them halted.
@Heidi_Labour installed some of these schemes and wants to solve the problem ‘in the round’ but has failed to do so.
The @MayorofLondon says it’s important to consult and it’s the cyclist fault, not the design.
This is a balanced statement from the always thoughtful @LonTravelWatch on the need to rethink floating bus stops in London.
I support their calls and I hope TfL and boroughs will take heed.

Always said that in the UK with our weather the concept of cycling is ridiculous. While some will cycle in all weathers most will choose the car when it is raining or cold. Sadly this seems to have been ignored.
LTNs are destroying us ….
The lies continue to be pushed out…
LTN has SUVs driving out of them rather than cycling …. A bit too cold for them …

Hackney @TheGreenParty said they would listen to residents before installing any new bus gates. Yet another promise broken! Do these guys understand the meaning of honesty? …😢

This floating bus stop was installed by Boris Johnson ten years ago. It was a really stupid idea then and nothing has changed. If anything electric bikes have made things worse.
Went back to Farringdon Road Floating Bus Stop in the City of London. @andyburnham these will never be safe or accessible for blind people. Andy please halt them.

This is important. London TravelWatch, London's statutory transport wacthdog, has called for a pause on rolling out further floating bus stops by TfL & boroughs "until there is clear evidence of significantly improved Highway Code compliance by cyclists"

It is genuinely impossible to have a conversation with a cyclist on X without them becoming rude, insulting, entitled or nasty isn’t it?

In which TfL rely on a report withdrawn because it was so inaccurate. And “we are continuing to listen”. They have been listening for a decade!

So many blind/VI people petitioning against floating bus stops we now make up 5 contingents for petitions. From Essex to Exeter, Manchester & Oldham across to Leeds & York plus everywhere in between. But are you listening @andyburnham ⁉️

Have a read of this blog. Outlines clearly the problems with floating bus stops and comes up with a possible solution. We would be particularly interested to hear from bus drivers if they think it is workable.
Floating bus stops make disabled people cross a cycle lane just to catch a bus. There is a safer way: The Bike Aware Bus Stop. Passengers stay on the pavement. Cyclists keep a level, steady lane. Read the report: boldlytogo.blogspot.com/2026… #FloatingBusStops #Accessibility

ALT Aerial illustration of a red London bus stopped in a bus layby with its ramp down. A wheelchair user, a person with a guide dog, an older person and a parent with a buggy wait on the pavement. A red cycle lane with hatched markings passes alongside the bus, with cyclists and cargo bikes riding past.

‘It’s time to end all these floating bus stops. It’s discriminatory design that excludes many of us’. Thank you Flick for being part of our mass day of action against floating bus stops. The Prime Minister has to act.

The only review of these disastrous schemes undertaken by TfL has now been withdrawn twice. No review of accessibility has ever been undertaken because it’s an established fact that they are inaccessible.
Official. The @MayorofLondon has designed streets that blind people can no longer use but takes no responsibility, passing the buck onto cyclists to change their ways.
