Africa cannot dream of political independence or stability without walking the talk on governance: delivering for our people, listening to their demands, and meeting their aspirations.
Otherwise, something bad eventually happens.
Can there be political independence without economic independence? And what is the true meaning of sovereignty in a context of aid dependency?
In Kagame's leadership school, we find answers:
"Aid must do those things that will see people wean off aid."
In other words, the purpose of aid should be to get people off aid.
This is the kind of speech that gets Rwanda into trouble but that Africa needs.
As a freedom fighter, President Kagame understands that in a world of wannabe colonizers, there is a cost to seeking sovereignty, but there is no way around it.
Otherwise, there would be no point in speaking of sovereignty while choking with chains around our necks.
